Overall Satisfaction with Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT

I first began with Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT in Accounts Payable and payroll. I now primarily use it for payroll only. I will create invoices for manual payroll checks that need to be re-issued, and then print them through the treasury features. I also use the database view to upload payroll GL entries, and web view to manage GL accounts and entries after the upload.
  • Entering invoices with defaults auto-filling based on vendor set-up
  • Reporting features are fairly straight forward and relatively easy to use
  • Lots of customizable configuration options to make it work for your business
  • The automatic interfund GL entries feature doesn't work in the actual GL entry feature in database mode if you have more than two companies/funds (i.e. - we have PR, PH and PA - if we do a GL entry and it involves all three funds, the entries are way off - they seem to only run them through one fund, which isn't accurate. In AP/AR, this feature works great .....but not in the GL end when more than two funds are being used.
  • Reports are more robust and seem to have more accurate information in Database view; it'd be nice to be equal in web view or database.
  • Also, for reporting, in web view, you can show unposted entries in your reports - it's really difficult to find this feature in database mode.
  • Fix the print function in web view - it always requires a download - functional, but the extra steps are annoying.
  • The reporting features that include unposted entries and can be run on-demand to see a year to date budget comparison, have certainly made it easier to stay on task and within budget.
  • We have been able to integrate some of the fundraising features into Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT; consolidating to one system for tracking all key financial parameters, has been invaluable.
  • The budget partner (Zai?) is absolutely terrible and a huge waste of time and money; it does not integrate as advertised and is constantly "broken/down" on our end. It is not as advertised and honestly shouldn't be promoted by Blackbaud - it's that terrible.
Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT has great features for non-profits, especially when it comes to managing grant expenses. Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT makes it very easy to designate incoming funds, and associated expenditures, to a specific grant for tracking and reporting purposes. It also makes it very easy to track general fund items when specific grants aren't applicable. The customizable features allow you to institute proper and stringent internal controls and reporting features allow you to pull on-demand numbers which allow you to recognize variations quickly, identify and correct errors sooner, and assists us with staying on budget as we can simply run a report whenever we need to see where we are at. The only downfall is the budget portion - this has been a very manual and slow process due to the lack of support and functionality with Zai - a better budget partner would certainly be an upgrade!
We utilize the reporting feature and manually enter budget information so that all department directors can instantly see where they are at within their budget parameters. It has really helped shine a light on trouble areas and has helped us identify some efficiencies we can learn from.
The overall feel of Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT is better. JobBOSS utilizes more of a database type feel/view. However, it is designed for manufacturers, so the modules and flow really tie back to a customer's purchase order and builds from there. About 80% of the modules utilized are for the production end of fulfilling customer orders - this isn't really relevant in the non-profit world, so Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT is certainly better suited as it focuses on the office end of things (AP, AR, GLs, bank recs, etc.), as well as the non-profit angle for grant/funding tracking. The basic features to manage AP, AR and GL entries are similar - Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT just looks better.

It's very well suited for managing Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable. It also does a great job on the accounting end, but some functionalities could be improved (see previous question). It would be great if there was more cohesion between web view and database view, as the functionality in web view is better and looks better, but I still find numerous things I have to use database view for; it'd be great not to have to jump back and forth.
