Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Intersight
My team uses Intersight to manage UCS hardware as well as monitor VMware infrastructure. We were looking for a single pane of glass that would aggregate multiple UCS domains into a single interface (similar to UCS Central). It substantially cut down the time engineers have to search for gear and figure out where it is located.
- Single pane of glass management
- Tons of information at your finger tips
- Tight integration with VMware vCenter
- Interface is quite slow
- Interface tree (navigating between server, profile, blade, chassis, FI, etc) is counterintuitive and needs more links in the tree
- Deploying minor changes takes much longer than in UCSM or UCSC
- Unfortunately we are not fully rolled out company wide and I cannot offer anything for ROI.
We compared this to the Dell offering of something similar and it was no contest. With Dell all the firmware, package management, updates, etc are all managed with separate products. You're tasked with building you own repositories of software, drivers, and firmware and managing it yourself. It is incredibly difficult and compared to Intersight it feels like it's two decades behind.
Unknown as we haven't rolled it out into full scale production yet. I estimate it will save us almost 50% of our time though. Between ease of searching, single pane of glass for UCS and VMware, and ease of setup.
Yes - but that is another team and I cannot speak to it.
