Use Cases and Deployment Scope

IBM Blueworks Live is used by ourselves to document ourbusiness processes and policies and then update them in a collaborative and organised manner. The scope is to store all our polices in the cloud which can be accessed and edited easily and simply via a web browser without having to configure specific servers or worry about additional software or licensing.

Central Process Repository

storing business processes and associated documentation in a single map repository has been a major benefit to using IBM Blueworks Live.

It saves us from having to use and configure additional servers to manage our policies and documents as well as making it easy to access and view / use / update from anywhere using just your web browser (and not requiring a laptop with specific software installed).

Real-time Collaboration

The real time collaboration feature of IBM Blueworks Live is another big positive feature. It helps us save time and reduces the number of emails we send as we can visually design, analyze, optimize and review processes and / or policies in real-time and discuss ideas simultaneously. This works well with it's version control features.

Business Challenges

We were spending a lot of time maintaining and updating our business policies and documentation. We were also having minor issues with using older versions of documents in some cases. IBM Blueworks Live has saved us time in maintaining these. Made it easier and simpler to access, use and update the policies. Finally the version control feature has resolved our versioning issue we were experiencing.

IBM Products work particularly well with other IBM products. They are designed as a suite to go together as one might expect. Going from IBM products and packages to an external source (outside IBM or Microsoft) can be challenging and is one of the few negatives to using their products.

Alternatives Considered

Lucid Visual Collaboration Suite, monday.com and Atlassian Jira Align

These products are not direct comparisons however IBM Blueworks Live works well thanks to its real time collaberation tools and its excellent version control.

IBM Blueworks Live is well-suited for collaborative business process documentation. It allows us to visually design, analyze, and optimize a processes or policies in real-time. The version control is extremly useful when organising multiple documents.

It is particularly useful in early stages when a team of us want to hash out an idea or new process and there are several ideas we want to visualise and discuss.

It is not so well suited if you later want to take these policies outside of the IBM / Microsoft product suite.
