Overall Satisfaction with IBM Instana

For general monitoring of backend systems majorly. And to get prompt alerts when system is underperforming
  • Simple to use dashboards
  • Tracing of calls is very much better than other similar tools
  • Seamless integration for backend systems through agent
  • Need to have flexibility for users in building custom metrics
  • Grouping of error messages using patterns matching has to be better
  • Alerting based on custom metrics and multiple conditions at a time should be present

Instana is better at call tracing than the previous ones and is cost effective as well. But AppD can do a better job at constructing customised metrics, alert profiles and alert conditions as well, but it misses a lot of important details while tracing a call. At the same time, it can give more customizable options while creating a dashboard. It is not as simple to use as Instana, but is much more configuable.

New Relic is quite and expensive option comparatively, but it has its own perks.

For General monitoring and instrumenting, seamless integrations Instana does a pretty good job, but when it comes to creating more advanced dashboards and metric creations, it lags behind a few other competitors. Instana is very much user-friendly as well, so it can be used by new users as well without any issues.
