Overall Satisfaction with Kofax Power PDF (formerly Nuance)

The need to convert files from or to PDF format is a constant one in the legal world. And an increasing number of forms supplied by the government or regulators are in fillable PDF formats. Annoyingly, the government or regulators often don't consider the need of submitters or their legal counsel to retain file copies of submissions. There are also occasions when lawyers need to convert JPEG or other picture files to PDF format.
  • It's easy to operate the scan feature.
  • It's easy to operate the conversion features.
  • It uses a Windows-style user interface that's much better than the Adobe interface.
  • The rotate view and page navigation would be easier if placed on a floating toolbar.
  • Time savings. Fast, efficient tool.
  • Cost savings for clients; clients should not be paying for the problems of overly complicated software use.
It is easy to use. It's easy to find files, convert files, store files, export files.
Kofax Power PDF is hands down the winner.
Help tab function gets you to actual help. Web based.

Document assembly. Split document. Extract from a document.
Lawyers are generally concerned with the language of documents, and the drafting of documents. They're not usually graphic artists and use experts when pictures, rather than words, are what's needed to put across a concept. Kofax Power PDF concentrates its firepower on the manipulation of words or text, rather than on design qualities. The main reason I kicked Adobe to the curb was that Adobe was determined to sell me a suite of creative tools that I didn't want or need, and that added extra steps just to get to what I did need. You're trying to buy a good winter coat; Adobe wants to sell you a trousseau, a Halloween costume, and a ski outfit as well.
