Overall Satisfaction with Microsoft Power BI

Instead of using one big Excel file that gathers different types of data from various sources we decided to switch to using Power BI, which we found could be integrated easily with our existing business environment, while providing advanced analytics and reporting capabilities, enabling us to create customized dashboards. The old approach with Excel files was not reliable and very time-consuming when it comes to maintenance.

Pros

  • Data analysis.
  • Access levels management.
  • Graphical display possibilities.

Cons

  • Very often desktop app works slow.
  • More edit possibilities while using the model in web browser.
  • Less time spend on reports.
  • Better quality of data.
Since our organization runs on Microsoft based solutions Power BI was our first obvious choice to investigate. Our analisys proved that Power BI will deliver what we need with adequate cost and within a reasonable timeline. As a solution within our IT environment without the need for any additional, external integrations it was simply the right choise to make.

Would you buy Microsoft Power BI again?

Yes

A great tool to work with, create different views and dimensions for the data without touching the source data. It requires a bit of time to get used to it and work with it properly. Access level and sharing could be done a bit easier - because of that a 9 instead of 10.
We have been using an MS Partner - excellent cooperation. Full support with anything we asked for always on time with a nice atmosphere.
Definitely well suited for areas like Finance and Operational KPIs. I really can't think of any department that could not benefit from it. Probably less appropriate when you have many categories like customers or products and want to show all of them in a detailed way on one graph. Possibly the view in the report can be not clear enough.
