Overall Satisfaction with OneStream

OneStream is used as a CPM platform for consolidation, budgeting, disclosure, IFRS reporting, cash flow and other reporting needs. It has been valuable in reducing our reporting time. Our prior application could not handle our growth in size and OneStream has proven to well suite to handle the size and growth of our company. Because OneStream is a platform, it is not only used by our finance department for consolidation, but also by Tax, HR and we are looking into expanding the new use cases like ESG, Pillar 2 etc.

OneStream is still being further developed and improved. Their marketplace provides some nice pre-built solutions. These are not as common with competitors. OneStream has a helpdesk that customers can reach out to instead of going through a middle man like consultants or implementation partners. The OneStream support could be improved on some areas though, but nonetheless at least there is support you can reach out to. There cases that tickets lead to bug fixes, that shows that the support does take issues reported by customers seriously.

OneStream is well suited for larger companies who are looking for a platform not only for consolidations but also for a other reporting purposes, for instance, planning, esg, etcetera. As it is a platform with wide range of possibilities, this has also implications on the support. Therefore it is better suited for companies who can ensure they have access to sufficient support, internal or external. For simple reporting OneStream may be to heavy of a package.

Using OneStream

Finance and business controll
1 - People who can bridge the gap between finance and IT
  • budgetting
  • consolidation
  • cash flow
  • IFRS 6 reporting
We are very content with its performance and do not see any competitors that reaches its level.

Evaluating OneStream and Competitors

  • Scalability
  • Integration with Other Systems
  • Ease of Use
As our organization was growing and manual consolidation was inefficient and error prone, we were looking for a solution. The solution needed to be well suited to support the size and growth of the organization, the amount of data, the number of users, and different systems to be integrated with and ensuring good performance on the longer term.
We are more than satisfied with the product. On the implementation side, we would have put more focus on the implementation partner. At the time OneStream was relatively new on the market. Consultants were not seasoned yet. The more we get experienced with OneStream the more we see how the implemenation could have been done in a better way.

OneStream Implementation

  • Third-party professional services
Agium
  • We implemented when Onestream was a new solution and it was the implementation partners first Onestream implementation.

OneStream Training

onestream offers a range of training. I have attended a number of trainings. During the trainings a vast amount of information is discussed. The trainings also include exercises. The speed of the training is pretty high. When reviewing the training material afterwards, I found that the material is not complete as reference as it relies also very much on the verbal explanation and elaboration.

OneStream Support

OneStream support is focused on the infrastructure. Which means mainly when there issues with accessing to the system, they will be able to help. When the question is to much leaning towards functional it really becomes billable. The other issue is that the response time is not optimal. There is a lot of pingpong of messages and the time between the message can sometimes be long. Sometimes this result into a simple ticket to be taking days before it is closed.
ProsCons
Good followup
Problems get solved
Quick Initial Response
Less knowledgeable
Not kept informed
Need to explain problems multiple times
We have standard support. We are not aware of any difference in support levels that could be purchased.
Yes - I have reported issues, which OneStream recognized as bugs. They confirm these are bugs but cannot tell when the bug fix will be released and they do not send a personal message to the reporter. The bug fix is supposed to be part of a version release. I will need to keep an eye on version upgrades and try to understand whether fixed relate to the bugs I reported.
For a new development we needed a windows extension to be installed on the server. As it was not clear which version OS was on, and what is installed on the server, it took quite some back and forth before all necessary files were installed. This took some patience and support from OneStream.

Using OneStream

As Onestream is a platform solution, the usability is wide ranged. Onestream allows it to be customized for many usages. In Onestream business rules can be written, customized data tables can be created in SQL, data connection can be made to different external sources, on top there are market places and solution places are available that contain templates and pre-made solutions that help users getting started as well.
