Overall Satisfaction with Oracle Dyn Managed DNS

I was using DYN managed DNS to provide DNS service for my blog, thefrugalgirl.com.
  • Our DNS service was provided without any hiccups.
  • Dyn Managed DNS is wildly overpriced as compared to other similar services; also, the charges for spikes in traffic seemed unnecessary.
  • Dyn Managed DNS had very inflexible contract options; to downgrade our service when the site traffic went down— we had to agree to use Dyn for another two years! The customer service representatives who we had contact with did not seem interested in working with us or earning our business. We did not feel that they cared.
  • We wasted SO MUCH money on Dyn DNS during the period of our contract. Thousands of dollars were spent that did not need to be spent. And when we wanted to switch to another provider, we had to continue paying Dyn for another year after putting in our cancellation notice. Overall, it was an enormous waste of money.
We currently use the DNS service provided by our new host, Agathon, and it is just as good and far cheaper.
My interactions with customer support were frustrating and did not result in outcomes that felt like a win.
It was not hard to set up, but the user interface and login process felt difficult.
I suppose Dyn DNS might be good for a larger company with more complicated needs than I had. For me, personally, it was expensive overkill. No matter the size of the company, though, Dyn is going to struggle unless its customer service and flexibility improve.
