Overall Satisfaction with PaperCut
PaperCut is absolutely fantastic in tracking what is printed from an economic standpoint, but also from an environmental standpoint. I know the who, when, where, and what that was printed for my organization. This isn't a "Big Brother" move, but a way to hold people accountable for how often they print, and whether it's really necessary.
- Web printing: I can be anywhere and print a document to the printer in the office.
- Price Per Sheet Transaction: I can load my printer up with $50 at the start of the month, and track how much I'm spending in printing.
- Computer integration: I have a Mac and my coworker uses a PC. This works flawlessly on both.
- The initial set up is a bit of a burden, and isn't truly user-friendly.
- The web print feature can get hung-up some times and there isn't a way to cancel when a job is "processing."
- The MacBook top bar item isn't always stable.
- Positive: Cut back on printing as a whole.
- Positive: Tracking our monthly spend on tracking.
- Positive: I work in a shared workspace, and I'm not footing the bill for other companies.
Print Audit is a similar set-up that boasts about server-based architecture and how they are using a reputable and current business model (you can google the articles to see the propaganda), but ultimately it falls short when compared to PaperCut. PaperCut is just easier to use once everything has been installed. You don't even think about it anymore and it becomes part of your entire computer, which is exactly what I want when printing. This is something that is a no-brainer and doesn't get in my way. Print Audit got in my way and wasn't worth the hassle.
