Overall Satisfaction with PowerDMS
We use PowerDMS primarily to house our Departmental Written Directives which encompasses the General Orders (primary manual for the Department), Standard Operating Procedures and policies. We also issue training documents and courses through PowerDMS and Legal Updates. We utilize the assessment module for CALEA and the Texas Best Practices program as well. This ensures delivery of current policies and procedures for our personnel as well as the ability to query the manual in a useful and simple manner. Having all of the manuals electronic really makes locating the necessary information much easier for our personnel in the field.
- Manages departmental policies and procedures.
- Makes management and oversight of credentialing programs (such as CALEA Accreditation) much easier and more accessible.
- Provides a vehicle for the delivery and management of quick training for specified personnel.
- I would like to see a more robust training orders program where employees can request training schools and all aspects of that request can be housed and managed within PowerDMS.
- Perhaps additional ways to build and manage courses in PowerDMS.
- The primary positive impact has been delivery and management of our policies and procedures. This is extremely important in law enforcement as procedures are changing continuously.
- The ability to quickly and easily issue training documents is another big positive for our department. These training documents are then searchable in the future if needed for reference.
- I honestly do not see any negative impact from the use of this system. It has been a very positive addition to our agency.
When this product was selected back in 2007 there were not (that I was aware of) any other alternatives. This system has come a long way since the first implementation at the agency where I was employed. In that time the product has expanded quite a bit to make it more useful for other entitles outside of law enforcement which were the first, target users.
