Overall Satisfaction with Qlik Sense

I was responsible for the evaluation of Bi software by trying to synthesize log telecom data. So I tried the best BI solutions within the magic quadrant. I first tested first QlikView and then I tried Qlik Sense which was recently released. The goal was to set up a dynamic and exhaustive dashboard which could be sent to decision makers. This was done by mapping and charting CRM data to get global insight.
  • Making charts and pies.
  • Setting up diagrams & histograms (quite easy).
  • Creating an interactive map where I could have global views of some statistical indicators (very useful). As we say a map worth a thousand words.
  • And globally the goal was to create and interactive dashboard (that could be done in a few minutes).
  • Mapping widgets could be improved by supporting heat map analysis (for density analysis).
  • For some geoanalysis, sometimes we need to add a shapefile (polygone, line or point) and join it with other statictical attributes, to have a better visibility in a map.
  • To set up Bi analysis, sometimes web based tools are more efficient, because we do not need to install an .exe.
  • It needs the possibility to change the base maps.
  • 3D charts display could be improved.
Analyzing data on Tibco is very fluent. Making maps and setting up data classification (within the map) is very easy. The user experience in Tibco is well suited; it took me 5-6 minutes to set up charts, pies and maps. Statistical functions and analysis could be done easily on Tibco.
I used Qlik Sense to analyze log data which it easily handled. I also tried to connect to Oracle and SQL based data and it worked well.
Sharing reports can be easily done (with a few clicks). I remember well that I had connection problems... but it wasn’t the Qlik Sense platform that caused that. When you share your reports they remain interactive and are quite well design (good looking).
In collaborative environment we often prefer to work on a web based platform. A desk top platform could crash for some easily but you can get the backup.
