Veeam Backup & Replication

Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Data Platform

We have been using Veeam Backup and Replication for our Windows Environment going on three years now. Coming from MS DPM it is a huge step forward for us. Usability is simple, it functions, and you always know what is going on. It would be nice to see native support for the KVM Hypervisor as we lose a lot of cool functions do to us using that Hypervisor but basically you just treat it as a physical machine, and you are good to go. Would highly recommend it to anyone needing a good reliable backup solution which you can easily offload to the cloud or to another instance in another location.

  • Virtualized workloads
  • Endpoints and physical servers running Windows & Linux
  • In addition to back up, we also replicate some of these workloads
  • Enterprise applications such as Oracle or SAP HANA
  • Cloud-hosted VMs within AWS or Azure
  • NAS filers
  • Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
  • Capacity Tier to store data within object storage for longer term retention
  • Immutable storage to protect against ransomware
  • Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
  • Fast reliable backups
  • Browsing of AD Objects for restoration
  • Browsing of SQL for restoration
  • Bare Metal restoration
  • File level restoration
  • Hypervisor Support
  • Expand Cloud replication provider support

Would you buy Veeam Data Platform again?

Yes

We were able to backup the entire Windows workload that we had planned. We could also backup our entire Linux and docker environment if our Linux admins would so choose.
  • Saved us several times already with recoveries of systems that had self destructed during an upgrade
We needed to upgrade our backup environment as the hardware support was running out. We were also not happy with the current software we had been using at the time as it was sketchy at best. This prompted us to start looking into alternatives and Veeam completely fit the bill.
We use a cloud based long term storage solution and also keep out high priority system backups up there that need to survive a natural disaster. Veeam allows us to automatically send those up to the cloud without having to think of anything and certain workloads are backed up every 5mins and synced out.
We have not as our file server is Linux based.
All our scenarios that we have come across we have found Veeam to be suited for. It is highly suited for any Windows environment. Active Directory Backups, Sharepoint, Exchange.
