Veeam Backup & Replication

Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Data Platform

We use Veeam for server backups. Having global offices, backup without over reliance on the cloud is difficult, however Veeam enabled us to have both on-site back up and have back ups replicated to different countries to ensure we have a resilient IT infrastructure. We currently use it to make backups of virtual servers on site, then replicate those backups to a central location in our head offices.
  • Virtualized workloads
  • Endpoints and physical servers running Windows & Linux
  • Cloud-hosted VMs within AWS or Azure
  • In addition to back up, we also snapshot some of these workloads
  • Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
  • Automating test restores to validate recoverability
  • “Instant” recovery or portability between platforms (physical > virtual > cloud-hosted)
  • Failover or recovery scripts/plans for orchestrated recovery
  • “Instant” recovery or portability between platforms (physical > virtual > cloud-hosted)
  • Backup replication
  • Site failover
  • File and folder recovery
  • Console UI

roughly 20 virtual servers, 15 physical.
  • Improved disaster recovery
  • More efficient file and folder recovery
  • Less time spent on recovery efforts
Other backup solutions were not proving sufficient Previous ones had capability to do some of what was required, but not all. Additionally, they were simply difficult to implement and use. Ease of use is paramount for disaster recovery efforts.
We do not utilise veeam with the cloud currently, other than backing up some Azure backed servers.
We utilise Veeam too backup all server backups, including file shares, to local NAS boxes.
Being one of the leaders in back up and disaster recovery, it's no surprise that Veeam excels in its field. In a traditional on-premise environment, its capability is second to none for backup, site failover, file and folder recovery, and restoration abilities. The specific version of veeam we use is however less suited for SaaS like 365.
