Veeam Backup & Replication

Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Data Platform

We utilize Veeam to create nightly backups of all of our server infrastructure as part of our layered approach to backing up our data. First we utilize a different product to create real time replication between our datacenters. Then we utilize Veeam to create nighttime full/incremental backups and copy them down to a local storage device in an immutable state. From there Veeam allows us to replicate those backups up to another storage device in the office where the IT staff are based out of so we can copy those files to offline disks. We then rotate those offline disks in order to airgap them and store them in safes offsite. Veeam is an essential component in our data backup strategy because it allows us to create immutable backups locally and then airgap our offline backups so that no matter what type of incident happens we have a way to fully recover our data and server infrastructure and getting running again as quickly as possible.
  • Virtualized workloads
  • Endpoints and physical servers running Windows & Linux
  • In addition to back up, we also replicate some of these workloads
  • Immutable storage to protect against ransomware
  • Immutable storage to protect against ransomware
  • Backups of virtualized infrastructure.
  • Creating replication of backups between datacenters.
  • Creating immutable backups for data protection.
  • Incorporating in physical server backups alongside virtualized server backups.
  • Haven't been a fan of recent licensing model changes

We protect about 70 virtual workloads and 2 physical workloads currently in our infrastructure. We have gradually grown in our needs for workload protection over the years and adding additional licensing has been pretty easy and straightforward when the need has arisen.
  • Veeam has given up a long term backup solution
  • Veeam allows us to restore files from backup quickly and easily
  • It gives us peace of mind with regards to ransomware protection.
We utilized a different backup product before that had poor reliability and was difficult to use. We demoed Veeam as we were investigating alternatives to the previous product and we quickly came to like how easy it was to use and to setup. We were able to stand up and test the backup process within the same day and we quickly decided that Veeam was the product that would best suit our needs.
We do not currently have cloud infrastructure beyond SaaS so we don't utilize Veeam's cloud backup capabilities.
We do not currently utilize this feature within Veeam.
My experience with Veeam has been in a more traditional role where we back up our virtualized infrastructure and select physical servers and store them in central repositories. This is Veeam's bread and butter in my opinion and I haven't found a better product to do this role. I recommend Veeam for anyone who need to traditionally backup their servers and data and store it offsite or at another datacenter. Their options around immutable backups and replication to other datacenters have been solid value adds over the years.

Using Veeam Data Platform

5 - They are all in the IT Department
5 - An IT background, with a server admin type experience level is what I'd recommend.
  • Backuping Virtual infrastructure
  • Backing up physical infrastructure
  • Creating Immutable Backups
Veeam has been a solid product for us and meets all the needs we have of it at a reasonable price. We'll continue to utilize this product going forward.
