Use Cases and Deployment Scope

24 Hour Fitness subscribes to Vertex O Series On-Demand for both sales transactions and procure-to-pay transactions. For procure-to-pay transactions, Vertex supplies the tax for purchase orders and accounts payable processing.

Pros and Cons

Vertex allows for a methodical and manageable method to configure taxing decisions.
Vertex can be trusted to produce the same result every time.
Vertex Support response time is very timely.

Vertex seems to have a lot of scheduled maintenance, more so than about 5-10 years ago.
Communicating with the On-Demand Team is cumbersome. Once an issue is raised requiring On-Demand Team investigation or response, they will respond but you have to go through support for any follow-ups.

Vertex Tax Accuracy

Our company processes thousands of transactions in batches. Vertex is able to provide the tax calculation needed at great speed. During the initial integration with our 3rd party billing system, there were some hiccups in processing speed but that appears to have resolved itself.

Scalability

Adding additional locations for tax calculations is a breeze. The steps involved are pretty straightforward. We have not had to configure for mergers/acquisitions.

Usability

Vertex has a very comprehensive listing of tax categories that determine the taxability that products can be mapped to. Vertex was also able to include our industry needs when we initially subscribed - so if you don't see a category, they can likely accommodate.

Nothing to add. When we subscribed to Vertex, they were considered the major player for tax calculation.

Vertex can basically handle any tax situation where needed. This is from a business that is basically brick-and-mortar locations. I cannot speak to how sales and use tax is handled by non-brick-and-mortar businesses. We started using Vertex for sales tax transactions and then a few years later integrated for use tax.
