Overall Satisfaction with Vultr
We have a constant need for reliable hosting solutions. We run all kinds of web operations: websites, web services, file services, headless applications, etc. The main issue is always cost. The leading solutions like AWS or Azure are too complex and expensive to set up and maintain if you factor in the maintenance of the actual application we develop and run. Therefore we seek a simpler and more straightforward solution. For a long time, we were relying on Linode. However, we've been seeking an on-par solution for a while now. We tested several options and decided to choose Vultr.
Pros
- Easy and straightforward UI.
- Quick and effortless infrastructure deployment.
- Simple and attractive pricing model.
Cons
- Option to deploy predefined templates with a single click.
- Option to pay for the costs with natively transferred cryptocurrencies.
- It just works; we never had any hosting issues with Vultr.
- It's pricing model is competitive and predictable.
We haven't used Vultr's resource optimizations to the full extent, but from our experience, the best thing we used was the flexible amount of storage that can be easily and quickly changed. Thanks to this, we paid just for the storage we needed and have the peace of mind that we can safely expand it once our applications grow beyond the current infrastructure.
We serve a global user base and never had an issue with Vultr in that regard. However, we did not notice a direct increase in our market reach due to Vultr's expansion into new regions.
Linode is a more old-school offering. Linode pricing model and infrastructure rely on classic Virtual Machines. What we like about Vultr is that they offer the same at the front, but in the back, the machines are much more flexible and can be tailor-made to our needs, which of course also impacts the costs of running the infrastructure.
