Project Estimator
If you are considering purchasing this (very expensive) software, there is a 100% chance you are doing so because you have been awarded a Government contract that dictates you use 4Clicks Project Estimator. There are plenty of easier to use estimating packages out in the world, but you can't use any of them if you have a contract that requires 4Clicks.

Navisworks
Navisworks is a key tool if doing any 3D model coordination with other trades. It will allow you to view your model content with others to know for certain that your design is accurate and can be assembled. Navisworks also comes with a lot of additional tools to make this process easy.

Pros
Project Estimator
- The estimates it produces are simple and easy to follow. The formatting is good.
- The tech support provided is very attentive.

- Model Viewing, the navigation tools are really easy to use for walking through the model, especially if viewpoints are set up for key locations.
- The take-offs work really well and can be very quick and easy if the model was built right.

Cons
Project Estimator
- The software feels 20 years old. It has not kept up with modern times, and practically functions like an old DOS program.
- Clunky interface, arcane commands.
- Even their training info focuses on hotkeys like this is 1995. Even though I am of an age to remember computers in 1995, the younger generations of managers/estimators are not. It is time to bring the software into the new century!

- A link to BIM 360 Model Coordination is a serious shortcoming. It used to be easy to link to models loaded to BIM 360 Glue for more in depth clash detection.
- I would have liked the ability to export a simulation created in Navisworks to 3DS Max for a more immersive animation with decent material mapping and better animation tools.
- I would like to be able to view/create BIM 306 Docs/Field issues directly in Navisworks. In the current workflow we have to use other file formats to work within BIM 360. It would be more productive to be able to navigate the model through Navisworks and to create viewpoints and issues from within Navisworks.

Autodesk owns Navisworks, and it seems to have a pretty good support network. A lot of the troubleshooting or support information is provided through an online database, so you most likely would not be getting any personal attention with your issues. Since there are so many users for Navisworks, there is a lot of information on the web.

WinEst uses much the same database (RS Means/Gordion type) and has a similar interface. It is a bit cheaper.

It can integrate many different types of file formats of all types of design including architectural, structural, interior, MEP. It has good ability to make walk through videos and make it inclusion with the timeline. Clash detection is the main feature which sets it apart from the other software. No other programs has as effective clash detection as Navisworks.

- As stated before, if you are buying this software, it is because you have a contract forcing you to. While it does work, it is clunky, awkward, and very expensive.
- The price of the software and databases has always been high, but with the fairly recent acquisition of 4Clicks by Gordion (who also bought RS Means for their databases), there is literally no competition. Prices will continue to be very high, with no check on how high they can go.
- Again, can't fault 4Clicks tech support, as I think it is the best in the industry. They know their product and they respond to issues immediately. Considering what we spend a year for this product, however, you would expect nothing less.

- In operations, the clash detection feature has been very positive.
- In preconstruction/estimating, it's been positive, but I can't say there is a direct indication of a positive ROI. It does, however, help with the precon/estimating process.
