Pretty good as a basic CRM, decent as a support desk. Tries to do a lot, but doesn't excel at any one thing. Reasonably priced, though, and can be a component in a larger setup.

SharePoint is well suited in all environments and you can tailor it to your needs. Office 365 E4 will give [you] this platform at no cost and would be more suitable for an enterprise client. I recommend Office 365, as it means less infrastructure costs, go cloud! I honestly cannot think of an inappropriate situation for SharePoint.

Pros

  • Tracking customer interactions. Nice integration with G Suite, could be a lot better if they acknowledged that contacts may actually have more than one email address.
  • Support Ticket system is integrated, so we can view support history and other email correspondence easily. It's cheaper that Zendesk.
  • Support is reasonably good, usually prompt and responsive.
  • Constant development - lots of updates, just not often to areas that we use.

Cons

  • The client portal needs to be improved. It does not have the same user interface as we have within Accelo and we get a lot of client complaints about it.
  • It needs more executive-style reporting and the ability to create your own reports and filters.
  • It needs to be faster. With all of the things Accelo is doing to give you all the data, it is kind of slow compared to other systems in the browser.

  • Excel documents can sometimes be problematic with some users to open from SharePoint.
  • Adding an OCR engine for multifunctional printers, as opposed to using third party products. Especially now that devices can scan directly to SharePoint these days.

The only drawback is the price, it's quite costly to buy and requires Microsoft professionals to run at its peak capabilities. It works very well with large quantities of employees, has powerful search capabilities and a huge community. However it might not be a good fit for smaller companies who don't handle a large number of documents and employees and who don't exert high security requirements.

A lot of users can give you many great ideas how to cleverly use SharePoint's core functionality to implement almost any process you need. It is very sturdy, never crashes. Many applications and third party solutions are built for SharePoint so even customization without Microsoft programming skills is rather easy and low cost.

Microsoft has gotten better in it's ability to support SharePoint over the years. In addition, Microsoft and third party support offerings are abundant.

Windows server and active directory preparation is critical to a successful implementation. A pre-installation checklist goes a long way and saves a bundle of rework.

Alternatives Considered

Accelo doesn't really exceed any competitors in any one area of their product, but in 2015 when we made the move this was the best option that included all the tools we wanted. However, user adoption was low in some areas due to the UI, so we scaled back Accelo and added other tools.

Obviously we still use our CMS to manage our main websites but with SharePoint we no longer have to rely on one or two key employees to post the work that many have done. We also now have a central location for all of these files to be viewed and posted once they are made public. The idea here is that we can pool resources together and not have to worry if the one person who knows CMS is on sick leave, or even worse, permanent leave to get the work completed

It is extremely simple to share, within our department and even with other departments, things we have been working on. Formatting is not an issue when we are sharing and that is a big life saver.

It’s extremely simple to merge forms from different platforms to different types of sources! There is no lag so that is a huge help when you are in a hurry and have no time to spare.

Return on Investment

  • It substantially reduced the number of systems we use to run our business.
  • It reduced the need to train our staff on a variety of platforms.
  • It gave us the ability to have a client-facing portal that directly integrates with our backend systems.

  • Increased employee efficiency
  • Ability to collaborate
  • Gives higher ups some insight on what users are working
