Intercom

Intercom is extremely well suited for in-app support communication. They provide live chat that supports quick media uploads (.gifs, images, videos, URLs) and it's a non-intrusive way to support users as they navigate your website. The platform is also great at helping you track the usage and activity of users - being able to see who has signed up recently and who has logged in recently has been invaluable for us. We also use Intercom heavily to send out emails based on user interaction with our app, which has helped us automate our engagement with users as well. However, I've found Intercom less appropriate for sending more detailed/customized design email blasts to a certain email list and have used alternative email blast software for that, since it provides more detailed reporting and analytics.

Pros

  • The CRM holds all of my contacts and it is already integrated with all of my other tools.
  • The Email Management system is already integrated with all of my other tools. This means that I do not have to download CSVs and upload them to a separate email program everytime I want to send out an email blast.
  • I can take payments in the same system that has my email marketing and CRM. This means that I can create tags and send different email campaigns depending on if I have received payment or not.
  • The website hosting means that I can use the same software to update my blog and gallery of food pictures.
  • I can sell tickets to my cooking classes from the same software that manages everything else that I do in my business.
  • I use the task manager that is built in to remind me of things I need to do. I really like that it is tied into my CRM so I can tag tasks to specific clients.
  • The built in timecard system allows me to "clock in" to whatever client that I am working on so that my time and hourly rate are automatically calculated for me. My invoices are sent automatically on the first of each month.

It's currently a perfect fit for our needs, and we are customer-focused and small. When we grow, we may need to re-evaluate, but our current team finds it easy. Reviewing conversations is simple and allows for great training. The canned replies make service fast and easy. Smart suggestions remove the need to re-write technical walkthroughs and explanations for our FAQ

Intercom has really done a great job creating a focused product that provides huge value and is super easy to use. Our entire business group and a few engineering members are using it with no training whatsoever which is super rare for any platform.
