Hive syntax is almost like SQL, so for someone already familiar with SQL it takes almost no effort to pick up Hive.
To be able to run map reduce jobs using json parsing and generate dynamic partitions in parquet file format.
Simplifies your experience with Hadoop especially for non-technical/coding partners.

Multi Store Tables - allowing to store data in default store and extended store as per data ageing.
In Production Environment it allows same host deployments (Hana host + Dynamic Tiering). No need to have separate dedicated server for each of them.
Incremental and differential backups - Reducing backup times and storage requirements.

Cons

Use Hive for analytical work loads. Write once and read many scenarios. Do not prefer updates and deletes.
Behind scenes Hive creates map reduce jobs. Hive performance is slow compared to Apache Spark.
Map reduce writes the intermediate outputs to dial whereas Spark operates in in-memory and uses DAG.

Support - hard to find resources online so you are often dealing with an issue for a while.
UI could be more intuative, takes a while to get use to or train users.
Using a couple of models can make it not respond effectively.
Doesn't support text data type.

At this moment we are not focusing on SAP, however would love to in the future. This is primarily because of our limited ability to generate more revenue to fund for SAP partnerships and products. Our initial tryst with SAP Partneredge open ecosystem didn't go as planned and we have shelved that for now. Hope we can revive in the future

Thanks to its high usability Apache Hive enables users to craft extensive queries really efficiently and at the same time to how to hold response times very low. HiveQL simplicity makes it super easy to manage large datasets, what was almost an impossible task before introduction of Apache Hive data warehousing platform in our company.

Meanwhile, I can confirm that the possibilities presented to my organization by the change to SAP HANA, at the moment, have been very important to evolve the analytical and strategic field towards a new path.

Hive also has a community platform of its own just like other Hadoop frameworks. Most of the queries/problems are resolved in the community itself. We can just post our problems or get in touch with a specific user and get the issue resolved. Otherwise there is always the product support team for any resolution.

SAP HANA is stable product now. However, we would be interested an even better and clearly defined roadmap. In terms of availability of technical resources with enough expertise to handle complex business challenges, SAP needs to take up the initiative of enabling partners and larger community. Better awareness around best practice content and tighter integration between SIs and product vendor is required.

Besides Hive, I have used Google BigQuery, which is costly but have very high computation speed.Amazon Redshift is the another product, I used in my recent organisation.Both Redshift and BigQuery are managed solution whereas Hive needs to be managed

[Despite] of the high operational costs involved I can vouch for the fact the new [SAP] HANA cloud solution is by far worth it as they have included a significant amount of machine learning features, introduced a new computational algorithm a more improved ui and also the general security and robust performance on offer.

Return on Investment

It exposes the distributed calculation world (Hadoop) to the users but doesn't require the user to have the in-depth understanding of boilerplate details, it reduces the time of learning and let the data analyst can focus their efforts on the core business.

The [strategies] and the time consumed on migrating to HANA was time [consuming] and costly during the initial phases of the project.
The time and resources utilized to set up the infra plan from requirements to production was huge.
But once we were getting into cadence of utilizing the open architecture of HANA we were able to utilize its features that helped us to leverage.
Again I would say that overall for us HANA [has] proved to be worth spending for as it helped us achieve our business's objectives.
