CIC Plus was designed to set up local and state taxes for employees in the payroll system. Taxes were not being set up for work locations and there was a lot of manual entry as well as audits that had to be done to set up employees properly.

I think Namely is generally a solid solution for small companies. I am not sure how well it scales—some of the UI/navigation problems I have noticed are likely to be even more problematic at a larger organization. It works very well to manage payroll and basic employee details. The social networking component is also well done. The most problematic is performance/goal tracking. They have the right idea, it is just clunky, and we've started tracking this outside of Namely because it is just easier that way.

  • CIC Plus does not automatically set up taxes for a new hire unless the new hire goes to CIC Plus website and fills out the paperwork.
  • CIC Plus needs to have an automatic feed for every new hire that automatically sets up ALL the home and work location taxes for the employee.

  • No centralized data platform which creates a ton of disparate data processes and errors
  • Does not sufficiently support the most basic employee lifecycle processes and pay practices.
  • Customer support is challenging since there seems to be a huge disconnect with the Namely teams. They don't seem to interact and work together.
  • Namely is constantly "improving" their platforms but does not always communicate the changes to customers. We're often surprised by changes in functionality.
  • Inadequate reporting for very common HR and payroll reports.

Administrators and employees love Namely. It is very easy to use and streamlined. Employees stay engaged with news feed updates and enjoy all the self service options. The time cards are very easy to access and clocking in and out for non-exempt employees is a breeze. Namely is part of our family.

Payroll is pretty user friendly and so is running payroll reports. The benefits enrollment is pretty clear and easy to understand. The details behind the benefits and what it will cost per payroll is structured so that it is clear to each user. They used to have a great support system but they recently switched to a ticketing system and it is not as user friendly

CIC Plus does not set up all the taxes that are necessary to pay employees properly and this left the employer wide open for tax penalties and interest for taxes that were not paid properly and timely.

Unfortunately, in more recent years we've had a lot of difficulty with Namely as they've undergone a lot of internal changes. It took 4 returned emails saying the person no longer worked at Namely to find someone to help me (I finally called payroll) and it took a while to get connected with a direct source of help. Namely now has set up their "pod" feature of communication which works well for the most part, but is different. I felt spoiled when we first started with Namely, but now it feels very much like working with most large companies' help centers. There is a system to go through and you do have the option to click "urgent". In general the help is efficient, but it still takes a few days and it's hard to speak with someone directly. It is all done via online communications and is difficult to actually speak to someone on the phone. This works well for most cases, but I do feel frustrated more often than I'd like to with this type of communication. (2019/2020)

It went smoothly, but there were many requests I had on reporting, tracking, etc that were never put into place. I would have set these things up myself but we were also never told how to do it. They ran a parallel payroll test, or said they did, but when I audited our first payroll, there was a lot wrong with it (taxes, deductions, etc) that required a ton of manual adjustments on the next payroll.

CIC Plus

BSI Tax Profile works to set up taxes for employees Home and Work location. It works as designed and requires a lot less auditing of employees' tax set up.

I did not select Namely. I inherited it. My predecessors chose it because they thought it "looked good" and that employees would like it. ADP and Ultipro are both better. Namely might be fine for 50-100 per some employers, but it gets painful beyond that point.

  • I wasn't involved in the cost aspect. I was the administrator of the CIC Plus system.
  • CIC Plus caused us to owe back taxes on local taxes that were not automatically set up for employees.
  • The taxes that were not paid timely had interest and penalties associated with them.

  • Decline in reporting capability (payroll general ledger report is a nightmare every 2 weeks).
  • Product cost is way too high for services delivered. It was the worst financial investment we have made in years.
