Read&Write is a literacy support tool that offers help with everyday tasks like reading text out loud, understanding unfamiliar words, researching assignments and proofing written work.
We have benchmarked Read&Write against other in-built, free accessibility tools integrated as part of the inbuilt operating system. While these provide some excellent functionality, what we wanted was that universal approach - tools that worked natively in the browser but also …
R&W does SO MUCH MORE. I would love a 'tone checker' function, as some people with autism may struggle with how their emails/messages come across, but other than that, there is no comparison between these two tools.
Read&Write is better because all the tools are in one place vs Kami which is mostly just a PDF reader and annotation tool. Orbitnote is comparable to Kami so I wish that were included within Read&Write. We also have had our IT team thoroughly review Read&Write and it meets our …
Clicker was missing from the list. The benefit of using Read&Write over other software has been its integration with Google, and that it brings all the features into one toolbar. This means we are not adding additional cognitive load to our students.
I've always found Read&Write superior to Kurzweil and we do have a small volume/web license of K3000 for those students that have used it in the past and I am not able to convert them to Read&Write. Dragon is one of the Speech Recognition options. I lean towards using the …
I really think that Read&Write outshines the competitors. Its variety of tools offers so many options to so many students/people. Some of the other tools were cumbersome, only worked on installed programs like MS Word or only worked in its own environment. Read&Write works …
We choose Read&Write because we could license it to ALL staff and students rather than those with documented special needs. It addresses the fluctuating needs of our populations.
It seems that Google is working to add some of the same features within the Google suite which will be nice, however, it does not seem that they are focused on the same goals for learners, so right now, it does not compare fully.
Switching all learning content to PDF would interrupt the workflow for teachers assigning student work or tests on google classroom. Kami also does not have word prediction to support the students with writing needs such as dyslexia.
We haven’t used Kami in awhile, but it did not measure up when we last tried it. All the Don Johnston products do things very well. We always had all the products because they are similar but did some things better than Read&Write. For example, word bank is a real time saver to …
Texthelp is the easiest to use while having all the features we need for our students. These other products don't have all the features we need at that price point.
There are other tools that do similar things as Texthelp, but none of them are extensions that work within the chrome browser. They also do not incorporate all of the integrated tools that Texthelp does, which means users would need to go to different websites or apps to take …
Read&Write is definitely suited to supporting learners of all abilities in accessing learning. Its on-demand nature is really powerful, giving children the support, confidence, and scaffolds to access their learning without any stigma or the need to be embarrassed when asking for help from a teacher or another adult in the classroom.
I wish the Check It tool was available on the web (only in GDocs currently)
I wish the highlighter/collect highlights would collect citation information (kind of a combination of MyBib and highlighters)
One weird thing with the Reading tools (text-to-speech) is that if you are zoomed in to FIT on a GDoc it does glitchy stuff (skipping or not displaying) vs when you are at 100% zoom
why isn't Rewordify in Read&Write in a Google Doc? only on web version? Same for Simplify text tool.
As an assistive technology software that revolutionizes literacy experiences. With features like text-to-speech, speech-to-text, and vocabulary tools, it empowers learners of all abilities. Its impact extends beyond the classroom, fostering engagement, accessibility, and personalized learning.
I always appreciate the emails with tips, tricks, videos and professional development. The tool is often changing for the better and it's good to stay in the loop. I have also been pleased with the tech support from Texthelp when needed. However, we rarely need tech support for the product. Our sales rep has helped us renew our license multiple times!
Clicker was missing from the list. The benefit of using Read&Write over other software has been its integration with Google, and that it brings all the features into one toolbar. This means we are not adding additional cognitive load to our students.
It engages more students in the reading process by allowing struggling learners to listen to text and be able to keep up with the discussions with their typical peers.
It has improved learning outcomes by giving students tools to promote independence and engage them in the process and allowing them to create their best work.
