We use ETQ Reliance in our US plants and HQ, a total of five physical locations. We initially chose Reliance to replace a legacy system that ran on IBM Domino/Notes. We use several applications including Document Control, Incident Reporting, Change Management, CAPA, and Calibrations. Using Reliance allowed us to get several legacy applications out of separate Notes databases on to one platform giving better visibility to users.
  • Great aggregation of actions across multiple processes in one place.
  • Relatively easy to configure to fit company-specific processes but also a good out of the box solution
  • Able support all ISO management system needs (quality, environmental, occupational health, and safety)
  • SaaS or cloud availability
Cons
  • Support has been hit or miss at times. Purchasing a higher level of support (a new 'feature') helps to assure more consistent support staff; otherwise, you get passed among staff.
  • Ability to do drag and drop configuration is good, but you will need someone who can do object-oriented coding (Python-like) to really optimize if you don't use out of the box
  • Better, more up to date technical content. Each application really does the same thing in moving documents via workflow, but it would be good to have better technical content, e.g. ISO 14001 questions for audits.
If you can use ETQ Reliance out of the box, likely if you are not replacing another system and you can be flexible in reconfiguring manual business processes, then this is a good choice. If you want to do heavy company-specific configurations, you will need to invest in training for staff to understand the simple configuration as well as the Reliance scripting language. Having an overall SME for the application is critical if it will be used across multiple plants or management systems so coordination between users can be done.
  • Having one database to support many processes reduces the need for other products with installation, implementation, and licensing costs.
  • We have looked hard at on-premise vs. SaaS costs. This is worth really taking a hard look at from the start. ETQ Reliance seems to be incentivizing users to move to SaaS and realizes that they need to cost this to make it attractive.
We did on-site day plus demos of three products. Having a specific criteria to evaluate the products against in a decision matrix format made the actual selection more objective. There are many products out there that do similar things to what Reliance does, so educate yourself through webex demos, networking on LinkedIn or other social media, local ASQ or similar chapter meetings, etc. Knowledge is your friend.
Kronos Workforce Central, Saba TalentSpace (formerly halogen), Certify
At the basic support level, you get adequate support, but you are likely to be passed around from one tech support rep to another even on the same problem. Some of the support staff are both technically strong and have good interpersonal communication skills, others less so for the latter. Recently it seems that ETQ wants to monetize more of their support services both in multi-level support as well as in seeming to move some services from included in annual support to a fee basis (for on-premise deployment).

ETQ Reliance - A great tool to rely on for quality document management

ETQ Reliance is used in our organization across multiple franchises. It creates a unified platform across the Global Surgery business unit to create and manage CAPA-related activities, Audits, Nonconformance, Receiving Inspection, and Change Request and Issue Tracking. It is essentially used to document and track all ongoing and completed activities that are critical to the maintenance of our quality system.
  • Very good compartmentalization of document attributes. Each quality document created is automatically assigned a unique number, and allows a user to designate particular Opco sites, document owner, and business unit.
  • Toolbar for quick access to useful document functions including Copy Links, Export to Excel, and PDF Print View. This allows for easier tracking of an entire library of quality documents.
  • Customizable access permissions and intuitive layouts. The web interface allows you to optionally show phase tracking in Access Control, track assignments by due date, and assign specific user groups different access permissions to sub-applications.
Cons
  • Troubleshooting any user issues. This does not come up often, but customer service can take several days to resolve a user-related issue.
  • Limited data visualization options. Charting functionality within the web interface would enhance the web user experience. Charting and analysis is instead more easily done after exporting data to Excel or other third-party software.
  • Limited integration with e-mail and other software tools. Functionality to quickly draft reminder e-mails to document owners would be a useful feature. Also, allowing communication with internally developed software platforms would enhance usability.
ETQ Reliance is great for quality systems in which different levels of personnel are accessing common documents. The user interface and basic functionality is very intuitive, and thus easy to navigate for both novice and experienced technical users. It is also great at organizing tasks and maintaining document attributes. Overall, great for the purposes of an audit.
For more advanced users, it may be limited in functionality. Data analytics and related visualization is more easily done after exporting data and manipulating in third-party software programs.
  • Has saved a lot of time in preparing for audits. In an organization with multiple franchises, the cost savings from reduced man-hours is well in the $500K+ per year range.
  • Cloud capability has saved on document storage and hardware costs. The cost of storing online is low and has saved up to $100K per year in hardware and data maintenance costs.
  • Reduced need for third-party document control applications. ETQ Reliance has eliminated the need for other software applications to support quality document maintenance.
The quality of support is great. In my experience, the staff is very friendly and understanding, the timeliness is good but could use some improvement. With this software supporting a critical business need, the time window for troubleshooting issues is usually very small. Issues are typically resolved within a week, but would be more beneficial if resolved more quickly.

ETQ and Integrated Management System Solution

ETQ is a perfect solution for our Integrated Management Systems. We are ISO certified for Quality 9001, Food Safety 22002-1, Safety 45001 and Environmental 14001. It allows us to manage all of our requirements seamlessly and links from one module to another. It's a solution for not only document control, task management, safety reporting, on hold/non-compliance tracking, etc., but is completely customizable to our business needs.
  • Document control: love the workflow process.
  • On hold non-conformance Management: easy to pull up new and old information seamlessly and link it to meetings.
  • Meetings: allows us to have great traceability of meeting minutes with attached information—auditors love it!
  • Safety reporting: workflow makes it seamless to send from one person to the next while tracking each part of the process.
Cons
  • Troubleshooting: resolution takes a long time and is not always conducive to our business practices.
  • Notification of patches: I would love to have an option for automatic updates like Windows so we always have the latest version.
ETQ is great for those just starting out and because of the modules, it is easy to implement one module/function at a time. It also capable of growing with you, with much more sophisticated customization available later in your journey. The trainings both on-line and in-person are great. The management staff are knowledgeable and personable. We currently use it t two of our production locations and can access each other's information with ease.
  • We started with ETQ Verse and it was a perfect way to get everyone acclimated to the software. There are both positive and negative adjustments that had to be made with the upgrade to ETQ RELIANCE. The ROI is almost immediate, so overall it has been a great upgrade for our business.
Prior to ETQ we were using spreadsheets and shared drives and the ability to pull information was challenging. It was a very manual process done by many people. Now, it is somewhat manually input by one or two people and the retrieval of information can be done by anyone anywhere with ease.
This rating was given due to the timeliness of resolution. In the few instances we have had issues, it has been a bit of a struggle to get them resolved efficiently. The staff seems knowledgeable but in only certain ways and it hardly ever gets resolved with level 1 support.

ETQ Reliance QMS
5 years of experience
Our company has been using the tool for the past 14 years. ETQ Reliance is mainly used by our RA/QA department (Quality and Regulatory Assurance) to manage the quality process. Used for handling Complaints and their Investigation, Corrective Actions. Apart from the out of box modules provided by ETQ, We have developed lot of custom modules from scratch to address and improve our Quality Assurance through better process development.
  • The main advantage of ETQ Reliance is the out of box modules that address most customer quality process needs.
  • Customization - Wide scope for customization as per the customer requirements
  • Ability to build your own processes and modules
  • Good customer support
  • Continuous support and enhancements through upgrades and patches
Cons
  • New EtQ Reliance (Version 2019 and above) have restrictions on customization. Which made it difficult to migrate.
  • Better mobile platform
  • Better Data visualization
ETQ Reliance is best suited for those who are looking to get the work done with minimum modifications. ETQ out of box modules have most of the processes developed. ETQ takes the current norms and regulations into consideration and provides the updates. So, less worry about changing regulations. Also, it is well suited for those who would like to build their processes from scratch.
  • We are utilizing out of box modules. which provide a platform for electronic document storage.
  • We have developed a lot of custom modules and processes with the functionalities provided by ETQ. This eliminated number of tools used by different teams in the organization.
  • We were able to reduce paper usage by documenting the processes electronically.
  • Saved a lot of manual efforts through Automation using ETQ
Briefly used ClearQuest while migrating the data to ETQ
Customer support is fast at acknowledging the tickets. But sometimes first level support staff have trouble understanding the issue. Advanced support technicians are well versed in the application and provide optimal resolution. As specified earlier, the updates and patches from ETQ are regular.
