What is GoodData?

GoodData is a cloud-based data and analytics platform, bringing AI-fueled data-driven decision-making to organisations across the globe. With a platform that leverages the potential of automation and AI, GoodData empowers its customers to make data analytics available to end users via real-time, self-service data insights right at the point of work. The vendor states that over 140,000 businesses and 3.2 million users rely on GoodData to drive meaningful change and achieve more through data.

GoodData’s AI-accelerated platform is built around four key pillars: simplicity, flexibility, productivity, and scalability. It enables companies of all sizes, from SMBs to enterprises, to:

  • Empower users to autonomously explore data and create AI-infused interactive dashboards and charts via a no-code UI. AI-powered features like NLQ to drive faster insights and faster decisions.
  • Launch customised analytics anywhere their users need it in the way they’re used to. With plug-and-play integrations, low-code/no-code tools, and flexible embedding options, organisations can deliver analytics to users.
  • Enable their analytics engineers and BI teams to collaborate with code. GoodData’s “Analytics-as-Code” philosophy empowers analytics builders to boost efficiency with code-based automation, developer tools, and blueprints — letting them fully leverage software engineering workflows and ultimately create analytics environments even faster.
  • Ensure trust in their data, from source to dashboard. GoodData’s semantic layer and suite of security and governance features enable comprehensive testing, validation, and monitoring for consistent, accurate, and secure data, regardless of where it is consumed.
  • Dynamically scale their analytics to accommodate increases in data volume, end users, and business partners. Through its multi-tenant architecture, GoodData enables organisations to distribute personalised analytics instances to teams, partners, or customers, while advanced caching delivers lighting performance and keeps cloud data warehouse costs low.

GoodData is fantastic for creating insightful visualizations. If you want to turn your data into clear, easy-to-understand charts and graphs, this tool is all you need. It's a great tool when it comes to handling large datasets. So, if you're dealing with a ton of information, GoodData is the solution.

I could not imagine any scenario where GoodData would be less or inappropriate.

Based on my personal experience with GoodData I would like to mention last month's scenario when we were completely helpless in classifying and measuring our revenue sources to make a $100,000 marketing deal decision. Revenue Analytics has really helped us the most to date. Secondly, I would like to mention about another scenario where me and my team were really concerned about our data security.

This product is well suited for small to medium sized commercial firms and for businesses practicing in a non profit industry. The cheap start up costs and speed to market are attractive to companies that cannot support internal development or information life cycle.

Larger companies using the product for their external customers may find that the product does not scale financially as well as other products in the market.

I think GoodData is probably most well suited to companies or divisions that don't have a dedicated data team and where the admins of the system don't have a lot of technical expertise. I think it's less suited for companies that have highly complex data models and end use needs.
Some of their recommendations like limiting to 8 filters for a dashboard is ridiculous. We regularly use up to 20 because the demands of our business require it. I also feel like the developers should be attempting to use their product themselves for real use cases. I think they would have better insight to how some things can be clunky or frustrating.

GoodData proves invaluable in optimizing marketing campaigns through detailed insights, enhancing targeting and engagement strategies. It excels for businesses prioritizing data-driven decisions, providing analytics crucial for strategic planning and competitiveness.
For smaller businesses with simpler analytics needs, GoodData's sophistication might exceed requirements. In such cases, a more straightforward tool could be more suitable, preventing unnecessary complexity for organizations with limited resources.

If it's specifically distributed embedded analytics, I think GoodData is an excellent choice. If it's not embedded but still distributed, I think it's still a great choice with the way they have workspaces and data inheritance set up. If it's not embedded and not distributed, definitely still worth exploring but the pricing model will likely not be well-suited for the project.

GoodData is ideal for teams requiring intuitive data visualization, collaborative insights, and embedded analytics in applications. It may be less suitable for situations demanding quick adoption, given a perceived learning curve, and for users with highly specific and detailed dashboard formatting requirements.

I have to admit that our particular use case might not be ideally suited to use GoodData, what we have in our database is time series data, and the main advantage we were going for by using GoodData was time to market with a feature-rich and complete package for not only our customers but also our own staff who need to manage the dashboards for example. I do see the massive potential to eventually even use GoodData to analyze our own sales figures for example. We currently don't have any plans on doing that, but I think GoodData is perfect for situations like that.

GoodData is well-suited for scenarios where businesses require a powerful Embedded BI platform that offers seamless integration with existing software. It excels in providing insightful analytics for issue tracking and resolution, enabling data-driven decision-making. Its ability to create custom ad-hoc dashboards and reports empowers users to derive valuable insights without extensive technical expertise. However, GoodData may be less appropriate for highly complex data analysis or large-scale data processing due to potential limitations in scalability and customization.

We had a very positive experience from initial outreach to getting the full package. We had efficient meetings with different team members and we used Slack to talk to the team directly. The truth is that our engineering team had a hard time completing the project because of inefficient documentation.
