We use QuickBooks Premier to manage finances and payroll activities; it is used in conjunction with third party apps. Everyone in the organization uses the product either to support the company or to support our clients. Not every client is on this version. Some clients are on earlier or later years of Premier. Some clients are on QuickBooks Online. It solves the bookkeeping matters, such as payables and receivables, keeps records to support tax preparation and records payroll. It is used for budgeting and planning. It is simpler for the clients to understand as compared to the module based accounting systems.
  • It is intuitive for the client. For example, when the client goes to write a check, a screen opens that looks like a check.
  • It does all the debits and credits behind the scenes, so the client does not need to have an understanding of debits and credits.
  • There is a lot of support and a big community of users, so it is easy to get help, and to find staff that know how to work with the software.
  • The desktop version is much more robust than the online version, and the processing speed is much better.
  • You can only have average cost for inventory. No last-in, last-out (LIFO) or first-in, first-out (FIFO).
  • If you are not on a hosted solution provider, you may have problems accessing your data remotely.
  • You have to keep upgrading and installing updates.
If more than one person needs to access the file and not everyone is in the same location, it is easier and cheaper to use the online version, as compared to a hosted solution provider. However, it is faster and cheaper than the online version if everyone is working in the same location and you don't have more than about five users.

Enterprise is the cadillac of Intuit Products, QuickBooks Online has unparalleled access.Premier is much better than Pro, which doesn't have as many features. I work in the accountant version, so I really like the functionality and sometimes I recommend the client buys the accountant version for the additonal tools that are available.

As a certified ProAdvisor, I get preferential support. Intuit loves accountants. If I were not a ProAdvisor, I would pay for premium support.
This is an awesome product and the support team is very knowledgeable. The product is mature, so there are not a lot of bugs and the support team really solves problems quickly. Usually it is a user error issue, but the support desk helps me out. I love the fact that it is US based support.

Intuit always provides me with exceptional support. I have sometimes needed assistance setting up a file for multiple users on a network. I have trusted Intuit to remote into my computers and quickly identify and solve the issue. It made me look very good in front of the client. The support team is friendly and I feel they care about me as a customer.
This is very reliable software, the desktop version is fast. If there is a problem, it is most likely on your own hardware!

  • Easy to use
  • Ability to Import Bank and Vendor Information
  • Run Payroll Easily

  • Pricing Structure/Discounts for accountants should be increased as we refer clients
QuickBooks is pretty well suited for most business, if you add the modules like construction it is very adaptable.

We use it throughout the organization for time keeping billing and invoicing. We sync it with payroll (QuickBooks Mananged Payroll) and with Bill. com which is our portal for payment and client receipts and invoicing. All employees have different levels of access and keep track of their time in the program. We use the program in a shared file server environment.
  • Integrates well with the other software I use
  • Easy to navigate
  • Easy to set up
  • Good support network
  • Reporting is old and inflexible
  • Levels of security are not very flexible
  • Multiuser is cumbersome
What are your needs? How will you be using the program? What is you business? What will your goal be for an accounting software? What kind of computer equipment and network do you have?

  • Reliable
  • Appropriate for my size business

I could not get the line above to work.

The programs i reviewed and evaluated were Peachtree, QB online, Xero and Intacct.

The reason I continue to use QB is that i know the program and understand its strengths and weaknesses. Peachtree was much more cumbersome to implement and use, Intacct, while great, was to expensive and really much more than I needed. Qbonline did not offer some of the functionality that I need and Xero is new in the market, and does not seem to offer me anything the QB does not already have. Intuit is a well respected company. They put a lot of effort into the QB product and when I have issues, I can get them resolved.

The program does what it does well and is fairly flawless. There are always things that can be improved but the program remains extreemly reliable and predictable
It has been a cery stable program

We use QuickBooks for most of our offsite client accounting. When a client wants to process in house, we recommend the QuickBooks Premier program. In house, we use QuickBooks Premier for our own company data. Monthly accounting in house for clients are done on Intuit EasyAcct for multiple general ledger and payroll processing.

The ease of use and understanding by all firm personnel make QuickBooks a preferred choice for clients.

  • Ease of use and understanding. Drop down tabs for various functions. Reports tab, Employee tab for payroll processing, Banking tab for check writing or register, etc.
  • Ability to make changes on the go without much difficulty.
  • Can go back indefinitely for comparison reports, etc.
  • Check voiding from previous periods. Should be able to tell the system what period to void the check in. This is a function available in Peachtree.
  • When making changes to prior periods, a warning should popup to ask Are you sure? This could avoid random changes made by mistake.
  • More explanation to the user as to the cash vs accrual function of the program.
The use of the information and the cost of the program are the main factors for a small business client. I believe that QuickBooks can be used by a non-accounting person with basic understanding of financial statements and a check register. That is what makes it preferred by me for clients.

  • Mainly used for overall firm management and discussions between partners.
  • Program ease of use and ability for detail reports improve response time.

EasyAcct is a multiple general ledger system developed for accounting firms.

Peachtree by Sage (Quantum) is similar to QuickBooks but not as user friendly.

QuickBooks is a market leader for small business both used by accounting firms and their clients.

Change management was minimal
The program is generally very easy to install for a single user. Network installation is more complicated and may require professional help.
  • We needed to conform our receivables management to Quickbooks flow.
  • Vendor information needed to entered
  • customer information needed to entered
You should implement Quickbooks in stages if you have multiple users.
  • Self-taught
Accounting professionals should have no trouble using and understanding the software. There are many courses and books out there for those who do have problems with the software.
Just right for this type of product. There are many preferences that you edit to customize the program. For example you edit reports so they appear as cash or accrual basis each time. It also allows periods to be closed so accountants will not have the problem of a user changing numbers from a period that has already been filed.
The configuration is a key element of the software. I would recommend customizing the report basis, year end closing date, accounting preference prior to using the program. The chart of accounts can be easily edited along with the item list. This also should be done prior to using the program and continuously monitored after you begin use age.
