What is Volusion?

Volusion is an cloud-based ecommerce solution from the company of the same name in Austin, TX. It features an intuitive dashboard, built-in marketing and promos, SEO, templates and tools to customize look and appearance, and more.

For $15 per month the Mini plan supports sale of 100 products, provides 1GB of bandwidth, with plenty of templates, mobile-accessibility, automatic tax rates, a Facebook store and social media integration. For $35 per month the Plus plan supports sale of 1000 products and 3GB of bandwidth, and adds a few extra features (abandoned cart reports, the ability to display ratings and reviews, etc.). At $75 monthly the Pro plan bumps up support for 10k products and 10GB of bandwidth, and provides API access with eBay and Amazon integration, a CRM, and engagement tools (Deal of the Day, a Customer Loyalty Plan, etc.). The Premium plan offers support for unlimited products and provides 35GB of bandwidth, and a dedicated account manager to help with setup and provide lifetime support. Volusion presents Mozu as an enterprise level solution.

  • The end result of having our website on Volusion has negatively impacted ROI dramatically. It's a constant time and money suck. And it has turned away countless potential conversions due to its issues/lack of transparency.

  • Volusion is an integral part of our client operations, without it several of our clients and users would not be generating the kind of retail sales they wanted.
  • Most of our use of Volusion is in partnership with a client, so its affect on our ROI is that our integration with it can generate client revenue for us as well.

  • Increased product database efficiency. It's really easy to import and export products/categories. Has likely saved us hundreds of hours.
  • Integration with other platforms. Integrations with comparison shopping feeds, email auto-responder tools and fulfillment tools is quite easy. This saves us on the cost for custom integrations.
  • Because it is a hosted solution, Volusion takes care of all the PCI and other security compliancies. Not having to monitor this and update ourselves saves money and gives us piece of mind.

  • Honestly, when you're in the dashboard, the UX is simply horrendous. I mean, everything that should be 1-2 clicks away is 4-6 clicks away, and each pages takes at least four seconds to load. You just find yourself wasting a lot of time waiting for things to load. This should be more simple.

  • Increased customer service (has build-in ticketing system and user tracking)
  • Increased ROI and allowed for ROI tracking with campaign token links
  • Increased employee efficiency -- allowing a single person to handle hundreds of daily orders without overloading them. Also saved time for technical people as there is less work in setting up the website and customize the user experience.
  • Did not sync beautifully with Quickbooks -- we had to manually enter orders for the first 2 years before investing in T-Hub which did most of this for us. T-Hub did not resolve all issues though and each order had to be manually double-checked to maintain clean books.
  • The user to use customer interface helped triple our sales within a few months of moving our online store from Miva Merchant to Volusion.

  • We do a very high volume of sales and have very few problems with order processing, resulting in high levels of customer retention. The shopping cart retention feature has also really helped us keep the customers we already have.
  • The newer improved Paypal integration has also increased business quite a bit and helped convert customers. We're seeing fewer open shopping carts.
  • For me personally, having customer reviews, cart retention, ROI tracking, sales reporting, database import & export tools, not to mention integration with eBay, Paypal, Google Trusted Stores, and Google Shopping all in one place has made my job easier since I don't have to implement any of it myself. I'm freed up to work on planning and review since the execution has been automated for the most part.

  • We were able to have the cart remember each customer's info, so they could quickly navigate through the site with each purchase.
  • That being said, we had a lot of people that shopped, and then stopped at the checkout page. This could be the result of too high of prices.
