Storyline 2

Overall Satisfaction with Articulate

I am a freelancer that uses Articulate Storyline 2 to prototype and develop online training, or eLearning modules, for clients. As I am a sole proprietor, it is most definitely used across the whole organization. Storyline 2 allows me to efficiently develop effective interactive training that is attractive and can be tracked in a learning management system. Due to the efficiency, I can also quickly prototype, load it to a server, and share it with stakeholders to get feedback before dumping a lot of time into it.
  • Intuitive interface - its interface is not unlike programs people use on a daily basis, making it easy to pick up.
  • Easy to pick up, potential for mastery - just because it is easy to pick up and learn the basics, doesn't mean that you can't do amazing things with it as you get more practice.
  • Amazing community - Articulate has a fantastic community and forum with real people constantly at the ready to help.
  • Availability for Mac users - I believe this is something they're actively working on, but right now, Articulate is only for Windows.
  • More xAPI features - right now, it is limited in its ability for xAPI unless you do custom coding.
  • I am sought out for my Storyline expertise, having the skill definitely increases my income as a freelancer.
  • It expands my business from just instructional design to development without being a coder.
  • I save time by reducing the amount of custom code I have to write, increasing efficiency.
Articulate is more intuitive to use if you are more familiar with Microsoft products. Captivate may be easier to use if you're more familiar with Adobe products. I would still choose Articulate over Captivate due to its intuitiveness, simplicity to add triggers and variables, and even due to minor items such as not having to import buttons you would like to use.
It is well suited for just about any development of eLearning. It is not, however, a replacement for a full learning website, or eLearning that looks like a website. It is best suited for standalone modules that will be loaded to a learning or content management system. Storyline 2 also does not replace the need for adult learning theory. Clicking and interaction does not necessarily mean learner engagement. It is simply a tool to help you carry across adult learning theories.
