Overall Satisfaction with Basecamp

  • This is a great file sharing and collaboration tool. I work for a marketing agency and we use this technology for communication between the account, production and creative departments. It is a central location to provide feedback, view updates, determine next steps and timing.
  • Assigning the "client" to the product is not that intuitive and takes a few steps to get the project appropriately classified.
  • While I don't have actual ROI tied to this I would say we have seen a reduction in the amount of time our traffic person has to deal with scheduling and routing projects by at least 75% of her job and it enables the entire team to review at the same time.
It's very easy to learn and overall pretty intuitive. And if we spent more than an hour exploring all the functionality of the product, I bet we would love it even more.
  • One word of advice that I would provide for any collaboration tool is to set criteria or rules on what is appropriate to post so that everyone understands what should be a group notice vs. what should be done offline in email or by phone. It can be extremely annoying to get several emails of banter between two
    different people when a simple phone call could clarify the situation.
  • If you use it to manage a studio or team of creatives, it's important the account manager include a post to let everyone know when the asset is approved and onto it's next phase so they aren't waiting around expecting the asset to come back
