My hands-on experience and review of Cisco ASA firewall.
Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA) Software
Cisco ASA is a security device that combines firewall, network address translation(NAT), intrusion prevention, and virtual private network (VPN) capabilities. It is the best to use for small and middle-sized businesses that need a firewall and all the router and VPN device functionalities. We have implemented this device on our two sites and we connected both sites through the site-to-site VPN. This firewall is based on a stateful firewall, so it blocks traffic from outside the untrusted world to inside a trusted area.
Pros
- Site-to-site VPN
- SSL VPN
- NAT functionality
- Reverse proxy
- High availability
- Routed and transparent mode
- Static and dynamic routing protocols
- DHCP
- Fwo factor authentication
- Cisco any connect remote vpn
Cons
- Less security feature available for layer 7
- ASDM is not user friendly
- Good technical support
- Easy command line
- Easy to configure and deploy
- Lots of study material available
We were not using any firewall before this, so we searched and purchased the Cisco ASA 5525 Series Firewall. It provides us [a] firewall with router features. The performance of this firewall is very good.
