Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Catalyst Switches

  • Catalyst 2960 X/XR Series
  • Catalyst 3650 Series
Catalyst switches are used at each store. They are also our edge switches at our corporate offices.
  • They WORK. Our Cisco switches remain in operation until they had to be replaced to allow for we features.
  • Easy configuration. We manage many of our switches with a single config that needs only minor tweaks.
  • Configuration by CLI guarantees that we can easily reconfigure and troubleshoot our devices, even under very low bandwidth conditions.
  • Web interface. A fully functional web interface with all configuration capabilities would help for admins with less experience.
  • They need built in monitoring that gives real statistics and other data.
  • The cost is somewhat of an issue, but the flexibility and reliability makes up for this.
We are still moving to a modern infrastructure. We have nexus switches at the core and are currently workin on upgrading our catalyst switches. Once they are in place, we will be taking advantage of the analytics.
The catalyst switches are very easily managed and configured. We are able to use a standard configuration and easily make changes for the circumstances.
We use Cisco switches because they seamlessly integrate into the rest our Cisco infrastructure. They also proved to be at least as easy to configure and were on a par with cost.
Entry level switches are well suited to use in retail stores. Their low cost point allows many to be purchased and not break the bank.

4000+ switches have been instrumental in setting up our regional corporate offices. Their flexibility makes them perfect for setting up the more complex scenarios in locations with 100+ users.

Premium support gets our issues escalated to more experienced engineers. We can’t afford to have critical issues take entries periods of time to get resolved.
Yes - Yes. The version of software we were running had the bug. Cisco had already made a Verizon that fixed it. We applied the fix and the bug was fixed.
Our stores rely heavily on their switches to sell to customers. Once, we had a catalyst switch have problems that caused the entire store to go off-line. Upon calling the TAC and describing the issue, the engineer immediately escalated the issue. We talked with an upper level engineer who identified the problem, remotes into the device and fixed it. The whole call took less than a hour. Wonderful!
Most of the time, the TAC is totally on their game. Occasionally, we run into a support person that either wants to hold on to the ticket, or seems to be disinterested. Language can sometimes be a barrier.
