Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Catalyst Switches

  • Catalyst 2960-L Series
  • Catalyst 3560-CX Series
  • Catalyst 6800 Series
We used the Cisco Catalyst switch for our user community switches, allowing workstations, phones, printers, scanners, APs, Cameras, etc., all to be connected, segregated, and stay up.

Pros

  • Security is robust!
  • Support is great!
  • Stacking works well.

Cons

  • Cloud management would be nice.
  • Not a fan of the support renewal costs.
  • Kind of a pain to implement.
  • Doesn't always play well with others.
  • The switches are reliable and can easily stretch beyond a life cycle when needed.
  • The high cost of Cisco product and support is getting old, in a world with options.
  • Cloud management is a must in a modern age.
We have not benefited from this. Decision to purchase is based on needing a reliable and secure solution.
If I were to compare the Catalyst to the Meraki, I do feel more secure about the Catalyst, as Meraki was not originally a cisco product and was acquired. So, from the point of security and dependability, the Catalyst is a winner.

Do you think Cisco Catalyst Switches delivers good value for the price?

No

Are you happy with Cisco Catalyst Switches's feature set?

Yes

Did Cisco Catalyst Switches live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Cisco Catalyst Switches go as expected?

No

Would you buy Cisco Catalyst Switches again?

No

If you are looking for robust, reliable, and secure switches, Catalyst is a reliable solution and affordable in the Cisco catalog. No question! These are great in hospitals where security is tops or manufacturing where time is money and having reliable network traffic is key. I love the Catalyst line, but I find myself going with Meraki or Ubiquiti for cloud management, which makes a difference in today's world.
