Overall Satisfaction with Conductor Searchlight

We use Conductor for our main keyword research and tracking tool. We also use it to gain insights into how we can improve rankings on individual pages/blogs, and a bit of competitive intel. I would like to use their journey mapping tool to do a content audit, but haven't had time yet or prioritized it.
  • Keyword research and competitive intel.
  • Making suggestions on how to improve SEO (the insight stream is incredible! Every tool should have this!)
  • Their customer success team and helpful content is AWESOME.
  • The UX and naming of features is a bit confusing/tough to learn at first--especially if you're a content person and not in the product every day. They are working on an interface for content people vs. SEOs, which could be helpful (Note: I haven't checked it out yet).
  • Set up of all their best tools features can be a bit tough/time consuming at first. They do have great workflows, but it can be a bit overwhelming and hard to get done.
  • Some of the insights (while they're really helpful as a feature!) aren't always the best for us. You have to double-check some of the page level recommendations. We're B2B, and the suggestions actually put us in competition with B2C pages, which we're not interested in currently.
  • It has helped us become more organized with our SEO strategy. We have improved our rankings, which I feel is a mix of us learning about SEO and using insights from Conductor to decide what content we update as part of our historical optimization strategy. It also helps reinforce our SEO research, but more so to easily show us who or what is already ranking so we know what to create when going after new keywords.
The quantity of data is there. It's sifting through the data to make decisions that is the challenge. The Insight Stream is incredible. Every product should have this built in. It provides suggests for improvements made at the page level, which is helpful--but not strategic. You have to turn to Conductor's content or success team for help with that.
We can chat with each other and tag each other in comments to discuss strategy/data we see.
I do wish reports were a bit less clunky/easier to create and share, or were more insightful. That would help our team the most.
Great team! Great support! Great content! Awesome people!
I think they could formalize their cadence with customers a bit more. Right now it's ad-hoc, meaning we request meetings. Would be good to have more formal quarterly reviews set up to keep out engagement with the platform higher and on-track. Our CSM is great at pinging us and trying to help us out now and then. It may also be the investment level we're at has lower service. But overall I generally feel the Conductor team is one of the major pluses of getting the platform.
I think if you're in an industry with lots of competition and you have a good sized content team, this is one of the more robust/better tools on the market that will suit your needs. Even more so if you're in retail and have a dedicated SEO team.

Using Conductor Searchlight

It has a steep learning curve for non-SEOs but a lot of bells and whistles you need to do your work. InsightStream is 9. Workspaces could be a bit more intuitive to create.
