Overall Satisfaction with DISCO Ediscovery
The virtual law firm I work for uses DISCO to manage Ediscovery projects. Personally, I do document review on the platform, but the managing attorneys use it to review produced documents or respond to discovery requests. I have used several different Ediscovery platforms, and this is one of the more intuitive ones.
- Provides keyword and custodian search capability.
- Provides metadata.
- Helps organize documents in clear format.
- It would be helpful to have the capability to send a doc directly to the managing attorney because they don't always want to go into a database.
The interface is not too busy. When you are reviewing thousands of documents, the less eye strain you have, the better. Reviewing large amounts of documents in a reasonable amount of time is paramount to patent litigation and business litigation. Our firm has used the platform for different types of cases with teams ranging from a couple of attorneys to several dozen in different locations.
I am not in charge of finances, but I imagine that a reliable ediscovery platform can save money because it takes fewer manhours to review documents. You can also unify document reviewers in different locations and share documents across the ether. I'm sure a flat rate helps lawyers stay on budget, which their clients will also appreciate.
Attorneys obviously bill by the hour, so if attorneys can speed up the document review process, their clients will appreciate a lower bill instead of a bill they will perceive to be padded if it takes an obscene amount of hours to review documents due to inefficiencies, logistical hurdles, or bottlenecks.
DISCO aids the litigation teams in managing document review and production projects.
Managed review is great for small firms or firms that have several projects going on at the same time.
I would recommend DISCO because the support level seems high, the user interface is straightforward, and it can manage large amounts of documents. Attorneys can batch upsets of documents if a team is working in the same database. I'm not sure if it's helpful for building timelines, but that's probably something their support team could assist with.
