Overall Satisfaction with Google BigQuery
As a supplement solution to the main enterprise systems for reporting, it is mostly used for the R&D department. The aim was to query rather diverse and semi-structured data from various systems. Some of the sources were wide, some deep and a few were both. Other tools for storing and querying were tried as well.
- Good python package.
- SQL knowledge goes a long way though some peculiars are confusing.
- Make it more simple to administrate login from python.
- Difficult to estimate cost prior.
- Was chosen to lift a requirement that was otherwise difficult to achieve.
- More expensive than initially estimated.
We focused more on data volume and less on full application capabilities. All in all, we found that the two solutions complement each other. For integration, some sources were better handled in SAP HANA, particularly other SAP systems where Google Big Query was more suitable for various R&D data, such as time series.
