Power Systems Virtual Server on IBM Cloud for IBMi
Overall Satisfaction with IBM Power System Virtual Server
We were able to solve our scaling issues using the servers that we built. They are also much easier to maintain than any on-premises solutions that we used in our earlier development. IBM Power System Virtual Server allows you to have the power of both physical equipment and the Power9 microprocessor without having to invest a lot. This translates into higher sales, stable solutions, happier customers, and stronger sales.
Pros
- Affordably
- Provides infrastructure scalability
- Flexibility
- Capacity as well as high performance
Cons
- Changing the workflow
- The user interface for managing instances isn't as simple as it is with AWS EC2
- Implementation that is less well known and is generally found in major corporations

- A positive ROI impact was achieved by reducing downtime when compared to being on premises.
IBM Power System Virtual Server is cheaper than other cloud platforms. IBM is more suited to heavy computational workloads, and Amazon EC2 does not offer the same cost effectiveness. Amazon EC2 is often cheaper and offers better coverage around the world. It also has a wider range of operating systems outside the box. You get a virtual server at a lower price. It is easy to deploy on an IBM server, and their support team is excellent.
When we switched to IBM Power System Virtual Server, we experienced more than 99.9% uptime and no interruptions in our normal business compared with our on-premises solution. Our developers are less stressed and have more time, which has helped to increase morale and productivity. Although we never experienced security problems with the on-premises solution before, we now have complete confidence in the security provided by IBM.
Although the setup of IBM Power System Virtual Server was simple, it wasn't as straightforward as Amazon Web Services EC2 instances. The ease of scaling has meant that there have not been any mistakes in overburdening the server by too much workload or excessive internet traffic. This could have been a problem.
