Overall Satisfaction with Kofax Power PDF

Our company is not really "accounting", but there wasn't a proper designation for regulatory services or "other" to choose from. However, I deal mostly with accounting and IT interfacing with our MSP. Therefore, I am very often receiving invoices, sending invoices, printing addendums to files, etc. I love the Power PDF printer option. As I mentioned, often, the need is to add a pdf print of a file. If I use the Power PDF print option, I can slide the printed document into a current PDF as an addendum or as the front copy. This saves me tons of time. The other use that some of our team use Kofax to do, is open items that are secure - e.g., catalogs and other secured documents (not all, of course!). But, being in the regulatory field and needing to extract pages of information to be included in a 510(k) submission, this feature is very helpful.
  • The power PDF printer option allows adding a new document to an existing PDF file.
  • Opens some secure documents that Adobe isn't able to do.
  • Managing newly scanned documents efficiently from the physical scan hardware.
  • Editing text is well done, not that Adobe is bad, but I like how Kofax manages the process better than.
  • Flattening a file is simple.
  • Security features are easy to find and manage.
  • Highlighting seems to always use a dialogue box in conjunction, and that is not needed in every case. Therefore, I feel the option clutters the highlights more than it should.
  • Converting text to "readable" from a .jpg or some other format is a bit more complicated than Adobe's method.
  • Cost savings.
  • Allows me to work more efficiently in my job.
  • Assist our regulatory team in unlocking/opening secured documents for the most part.
  • Doesn't seem to cause as many conflicts as an add-in to Outlook, compared to Adobe.
  • Editing most text is a breeze!
I started using the program about 11 years ago. I felt the ramp-up time was very short, and I could work fairly proficiently within a week or less of using the then Nuance (now Kofax) program. In my current job, I do have to use Adobe DC Pro, and the learning curve has been immense. Not because I am more familiar with Kofax but because the difficulty level of most applications is hard to learn quickly. I'd highly recommend giving Kofax a look-see.
In my opinion, humble as it may be, Kofax has lots of power, an easier learning curve, and obviously a better price for the standalone Adobe or the monthly Adobe. SodaPDF (at the time cheaper than Nuance/Kofax) did not perform to expectations and left me wishing for Nuance PDF (now Kofax) to return. I ultimately returned SodaPDF, requested a refund, and immediately upgraded to the latest Nuance (Kofax) at the time.
I must admit that the download time restrictions are a bit stringent. I feel Kofax should allow you to download the version you purchased, unless this has changed recently. And the real gripe, is that they want you to pay extra to have access to the download link for a longer period of time. If this was replacing a physical program disc, I could understand, but a download link? Really? Also, I had a unique scenario, where the preview method in File Explorer (Windows o/s) would display a black screen only and not the PDF. The fix took nearly four months! I use that preview feature religiously, and for the fix to take 4 months, that was discouraging. However, I had some other interactions with support over the years that were more expedient and thorough. Hence, I didn't rate lower, but due to the above issues, I felt I couldn't rate higher, either.

As I've mentioned in my review, often, a Power PDF printer is invaluable to me! Flattening a file has been helpful. Scanning a new document from my physical scanner has been very useful. Editing text on the fly is very beneficial in my line of work. Adding text as a note or update on the progress of a particular PDF document is helpful. Like the stamps feature, too.
If you manage or are constantly adding pages to a PDF, then I would suggest Kofax over Adobe or some other paid software. You will be amazed at how this can improve your workflow. Adding pages to an open PDF is very easy as well! Great merge and add features in this software. Also, I have to mention the power is pretty close to Adobe, but with less cost. Converting text to "readable" is a bit clumsy for me, and I usually turn to Adobe DC Pro to accomplish that task. Otherwise, I think it's a powerful PDF program and outshines Adobe.
