Overall Satisfaction with Kofax Power PDF (formerly Nuance)

I primarily use Power PDF in my organization to create, edit and export PDF documents for clients, customer presentations and documentation of configurations for various products that I have prepared for my clients. I use it as a PDF "printer" to create PDFs from other applications, ranging from MS Office to graphics and web pages.
  • Clean exports of documents through the virtual printer functionality.
  • Ease of signing and securing documents in various formats, depending on customer needs.
  • Ability to edit text within a PDF document, especially for forms.
  • Splitting, combining and reorganizing documents is very easy even with a mix of text and non-text material.
  • The default text box editor is difficult to work with - it extends across the screen, which creates a challenge with adding multiple text fields.
  • Power PDF has increased my ability to provide quality documents to my clients without working what software they use (Office, QuickBooks, etc.).
  • The learning curve for Power PDF was very short, which enabled me to get up and running quickly.
  • Power PDF is a lot less expensive than most alternatives.
In general, Power PDF is easy to use, however, some of the more advanced features are not easy to find in the menus and the help menu is not flexible enough to find what you are looking for. In some instances, by the time I figured out what question to ask or topic to search for, I could figure out where it was in the menus. As mentioned, the text boxes do not have the option for setting the size initially, and are across the whole page, which makes it difficult to edit or add new text boxes, like a signature line followed by a date field.

Combining multiple files into a single document is very easy, and I use it often in my business for creating invoices and supporting receipts, etc. that comes from multiple source documents.
Power PDF is much better than Acrobat DC for creating and editing PDFs. I have not personally used Adobe InDesign, but Power PDF is much less expensive and reviews were overall much better. I have also had good success with support from Kofax and Nuance before that. Adobe support is not that great, in my experience. All things considered, Kofax power PDF is much better suited to my needs.
Kofax has provided excellent support since I purchased the "upgrade" to Kofax. Support was nonexistent for Nuance after Kofax bought them out. It was disappointing, but not unexpected. Support from Nuance was good before being bought out, however.

Do you think Tungsten Power PDF delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Tungsten Power PDF's feature set?

Yes

Did Tungsten Power PDF live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Tungsten Power PDF go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Tungsten Power PDF again?

Yes

The most used feature is importing / printing documents from any application as a PDF that can then be edited.
Second is the ability and various options for signing documents.
Third is the ability to combine documents and sort the pages quickly so they can be reviewed and edited by others on the team, submitted to customers, etc.
I have only used it for fairly light document editing and management. I would highly recommend Kofax Power PDF for any small business that needs to create and send out reports, spreadsheets, presentations, etc., without worrying about what applications the receiver may have for viewing. I originally purchased when it was Nuance Power PDF, but the Kofax version appears to be more stable.

Using Kofax Power PDF (formerly Nuance)

2 - Creating deliverable reports for customers, creating invoices, creating training and technical documentation from various source documents. We support multiple customers and install custom solutions for technical, network, telecommunications and audio-visual requirements. Power PDF is helpful in documenting what we have installed and translating to training material that the customers can refer to once we have completed out work.
1 - Understanding of how Power PDF works, how to find the various functions and how to apply them to our different workflows to support our customers. I do not find it difficult to support for our needs, beyond installation and initial training.
  • Invoicing and Billing
  • User documentation
  • Training Material
  • Technical documentation for customer and business records
  • Scripted consolidation of time sheets and reports for monthly invoicing
  • I would need to spend more time learning the full capabilities of Power PDF to come up with other uses. I am sure more will come up as I use it more.
Power PDF meets all of my current requirements and has the flexibility I meet new requirements as they come up. The price is good and it is much better than any of the alternatives I have looked at over the past couple or years. When Power PDF was offered by Nuance, I appreciated the capabilities, and since being acquired by Kofax, the product and the support have only improved. The bottom line is that I have no reason not to renew.
