Overall Satisfaction with Microsoft Defender for Endpoint
We use this product enterprise-wide on all of our workstations and servers. It aids in securing the endpoints and users as well as providing easy auditing and reporting on the back end of it all. It allows us to scan at will and/or schedule scans. It also provides real time protection. When an issue is detected the alert system is immediate. Overall, a very solid option for us.
- Auditing of All Endpoints and Events
- Real-Time Protection
- Configuration and Deployment of the Product
- It evolves as threats do, but keeping up with threats is always a concern.
- It's included in our license so it's a no-brainer for anyone with access to it to at least test it out.
- Scalability
- Integration with Other Systems
- Ease of Use
Being included in our license was a huge reason to at least put the product through a pilot test. The results we experienced were overwhelmingly positive and easily convinced us to implement Microsoft Defender for Endpoint in our production environment. Being a public education institution means we have very strict reporting requirements and the product makes it incredibly easy to provide the requested information as needed.
Currently we have deployed all features available to us, but mostly we use, at least on a day to day basis, the endpoint protection in the form of antivirus / antimalware protection. The anti-exploit feature is used and it is has been very eye opening to get reports of potential threats that have been stopped by it.
Our environment consists of mostly Windows systems. We have both workstations and servers in the form of virtual machines and a virtual desktop infrastructure. We have roughly two thousand systems and of those, about five hundred of them are a part of our virtual desktop infrastructure for end users. Probably another two hundred are virtual servers. The remaining are a handful of physical servers and the rest are mostly thin clients used to connect to our VDI.
- Avast Email Security, Bitdefender Managed Detection and Response (MDR) and Microsoft Advanced Threat Analytics (discontinued)
We never went beyond pilot testing these other platforms when it comes to Avast and Bitdefender, but it was an easy decision to go with Microsoft Defender for Endpoint in regards to cost, ease of installation, configuration, and deployment, and usage on a daily basis. The interface of MDE is very intuitive and required a very small learning curve. Microsoft Advanced Threat Analytics, on the other hand, was discontinued.
