Review of Planful
Overall Satisfaction with Planful
We are a Veterinary hospital consolidator. We have many use cases for Planful due to the ways we break down our business. Planful allows us to analyze data from a Top of the House perspective while still providing functionality to drill-down to the lowest level. Due to this, it is a great tool for us to analyze data and identify issues at a particular hospital. We also enjoy the reporting functionalities that are offered. We have many reports that we generate on a monthly basis that are distributed to regions and hospitals. We can associate directors with a particular region and then automate monthly reports to distribute their respective region's report.
Pros
- Reporting
- Analyzing Data
- Hierarchies
- Report Automation
Cons
- Wish there was more ease of use with creating reports. Sometimes I think to myself it would just be easier to export to Excel and make modifications there.
- There are some formatting nuances that can be really frustrating.
- I wish the dashboards had a bit more functionality.
- There are some limitations that can be really frustrating. For example, you are unable to copy more than one report or an entire folder.
- Automates many reports that would take hundreds of hours each month if we had to do outside of Planful.
- The drill-down capabilities allow us to identify issues and quickly correct them.
- Templates help us to budget for many locations at once. This saves countless hours.
Planful allows us to build specific permissions for each department to help them automate tasks while not having vision of areas they shouldn't. We are able to build out reports for other departments to assist them in their monthly duties and save them many hours doing repetitive tasks each month.
While we do have many use cases for Planful - we do not exclusively use Planful for all of our finance needs. However, it is great as a central source for employees to use as a financial data repository for reporting needs. It allows multiple departments to use the same data source and helps everyone be on the same page.
We decided to go with Planful because we thought they handled multi-site reporting better. The ability to apply dimension security to users is great for us with our field reporting structure. We also thought the drill-down capabilities and level-based reporting were perfect for our organization. Those are a few of the driving factors that led us to choose Planful.

Planful Features and Attributes
The smallest increment of time in Planful is months. However, it is great for meeting our reporting needs on a monthly basis and turning around monthly analyses that we produce outside of Planful but source with Planful data. It is helpful for accounting to view their entries in the system during close to ensure everything is flowing through correctly.
