Overall Satisfaction with Oracle SQL Developer
SQL Developer is being used by the data management team at my current climate to do data analysis and data preparation. It is the starting point for most reports and also where we merge data from multiple data sources. Very few business people have any knowledge of SQL and so they need the team to use SQL developer for bother recurring and ad hoc queries.
Pros
- Performs well even with large amounts of data
- Helps finds SQL errors before runtime
- Easy to install and upgrade.
Cons
- Embedded documentation for PL/SQL functions is lacking
- Integrations with other data sources
- Not useful if you don't have strong SQL skills
- Great return. The tool is free if you have a Oracle DB.
- Improves speed of BI development in a sandbox.
- Allows DBAs and analysts to use the same tool, which improves communication.
In the past you needed to use TOAD for many needs, but now I can do almost everything I ever need in SQL Developer. It is a cost savings and has become much more useful through the updates. Oracle products are never pretty, but they are workhorses and this is definitely the case with SQL Developer.
