Overall Satisfaction with StarWind Virtual SAN
My primary use case was for a SOHO deploy. We were thinking for the Branch offices to have a software-defined storage, for needs, performance, and costs, and StarWind Vsan was incredibly cost-effective with the best feature ever, not witness needed for small deploys, so the money we spent in licenses and deploy was less than purchasing another host, licenses for it, and also a storage solution to fix the issue, or rely on remote witnesses over the internet, Mpls or any other kind of communications, not fully local and independent.
Pros
- SYNC
- easy to deploy
- easy to manage
Cons
- better video resources
- marketing, it does it sounds around the it world
- cost savings compare to competitors
- using same technology as we did (HW) so no extra changes needed for it
These products are awesome, but not cost-effective for me. VMware vSAN integrates like a glove if you are running fully VMware environment, not other hypervisors. ONTAP Select is awesome, like a real cabinet, but licensing is a bit complex, and expensive. in both cases in a two nodes deployment, a witness is needed.

I would go directly with Starwind, with HW and SW all in one package.
