Overall Satisfaction with Tableau Server

  • Quick visual representation of factual data.
  • Drill down/Drill up and flexible slice/dice of the information.
  • Easy exports of data extracts and Excel based reports for additional processing.
  • No statistical procedures embedded in the software.
  • Tends to become slow when connected to a database table with a large data set.
  • It is not an "extremely expensive" software. It is worth the investment.
  • It is definitely dependent on the business objective a group is intending to achieve.
We evaluated SAS Web Report Studio, SAS Visual Analytics and Spotfire.

  • Weekly Insights on media buy performance.
  • Clients are in and out of the dashboards using them for their corporate presentations.
  • Unified Report Central for all our activation decisions and optimizations.
Tableau Server is the approved solution to be used globally within the company.

Evaluating Tableau Server and Competitors

We have been Tableau orthodox for a while now. Some of our adhoc requests were built in SSRS and Microsoft Excel prior to Tableau dashboards.

Tableau Server Implementation

  • Implemented in-house
  • Professional services company
Soft Layer

Tableau Server Training

The tutorials are self paced and self-explanatory.

Configuring Tableau Server

Tableau Server Support

They are pretty responsive and helpful to address the issues.
No - I do not think "premium" support is needed for this product.

Using Tableau Server

This is a product which can be built as a central repository for all reporting.

Tableau Server Reliability

This is one area which can be improved. This is also dependent on the infrastructure we run it on. But Tableau Server 8 has had "unidentified" down times which had no answers on further troubleshooting.

Integrating Tableau Server

  • MS SQL Server 2008
  • SAS 9.3
It was custom code and ODBC connections to enable the systems to talk to each other. It is not extremely difficult to achieve.

Relationship with Tableau

Global partnerships with the corporation always helps. Additionally, renewals and constant relationship with the vendors adds to negotiation.
