Overall Satisfaction with TIBCO Spotfire

It is used mainly within my department, which uses it as a support tool for making investigative analysis and reporting. My department also provides reports to other departments, which use such reports for consumer users. The business problems addressed by Spotfire are mainly finance, market, and process analysis.
  • User-friendliness: People with different backgrounds become expert users of the software very quickly.
  • Report management: it is very easy to amend a report modifying formulas, views, and data structures.
  • Look and feel: in a well-designed report, it is very easy to find the right insights, thanks to embedded functionalities as marking and filters.
  • Some visualizations should be more configurable and customizable.
  • Data mapping could be more efficient if represented in a graphical way.
  • Company customizations, such as logo and templates, are not immediately accessible to high-level users.
Automation services and statistics services.
We strongly benefited from such integrations, since they gave us the opportunity of automating a lot of formerly manually-operated tasks, therefore reducing our operational costs and use of advanced R scripts in many reports accessed via a web player.
It looks more complete, configurable, and easy to use compared to those.
It is also expandable thanks to the other tools in the Spotfire Suite.
It is very well suited to tasks related to discovery analysis. It may improve in terms of static reporting and publishing.

Evaluating TIBCO Spotfire and Competitors

We had the opportunity to test the product for about a month before deciding to proceed with the purchase and in this period we have been able to get quickly in touch with the main functionalities and features, becoming proficient in a very short time. The product was exactly what we were looking for in our activity.
Our decision process was mainly based on technical features: we had the opportunity to test several tools, and once we found the right one from the technical point of view, it was easy to decide. Probably at the time of the decision, we weren't even able to fully evaluate all the features, getting deep in some of them only later, in the daily usage of the tool. If there is something to be changed, probably would be the evalutation of non-technical elements, which were not fully considered at that time.
