Overall Satisfaction with Unitrends Recovery Series Backup Appliance

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We were using the Unitrends appliance to backup our entire facility. This allowed us to move to a disk-to-disk backup using tape as an archival format instead of the backup target we had been doing. This allowed the backup window to be shortened to ensure all data was backed up as required.

Cons

Ensuring a quicker way of setting up multiple servers with the same or similar settings
Easier way to redirect a restore

Return on Investment

Simplified backups from multiple targets
Easier to determine if backups had run properly

Alternatives Considered

Symantec Backup Exec

Using the appliance made this easier to work within a smaller organization. And we would need to backup both networked devices and Hyper-V instances.

Likelihood to Recommend

[It is well suited for] a heavily virtualized environment with some physical servers still remaining. The appliance was able to back up our Hyper-V instances without issues and was still able to back up desktops and physical servers without any issues.
