Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Data Platform

It has given us an easy to operate and maintain backup system that allows us to backup both virtual machines as well as physical servers. Since it has the ability to be disk based instead of direct to tape it has allowed us to backup our entire infrastructure faster than was possible with just using a tape system. With this speed increase we are also able to provide an hourly backup on some of our critical systems. Also with the "Instant Recovery" it allows us to get a VM with an issue back up and running as fast as possible.
  • Virtualized workloads
  • Endpoints and physical servers running Windows & Linux
  • Cloud-hosted VMs within AWS or Azure
  • NAS filers
  • License portability as your environment needs change
  • Immutable storage to protect against ransomware
  • “Instant” recovery or portability between platforms (physical > virtual > cloud-hosted)
  • “Instant” recovery or portability between platforms (physical > virtual > cloud-hosted)
  • Instant recovery helped us migrate VM's off VMware to HyperV. We know we can go the other way if needed.
  • Instant recovery allows restores of machines faster than previously possible with older versions of Veeam Data Platform.
  • Backup to disk allows faster backup times allowing critical systems to also be on an hourly backup schedule.
  • Would be nice if the linux bits did not complain as much about wanting to be immutable.
  • Would be nice to have a backup method for the main backup server to be able to restore from a data location like any other machine.
  • It would be nice if things would be a little more integrated into one client vs. having a client for backup, client for veeam one, enterprise manager, etc.

Do you think Veeam Data Platform delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Veeam Data Platform's feature set?

Yes

Did Veeam Data Platform live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Veeam Data Platform go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Veeam Data Platform again?

Yes

We have 5 physical servers, 182 VM's and 1 workstation that we backup to various on prem storage depots including tape.
  • We like the floating license deal that allows us to just buy license packs to add more instances if needed.
  • The price increase since the license change has been kind of hard for use to sell to management. While they bought in it has slowed us down as far as buying other backup items like storage.
  • It has saved us when a whole VM host lost drives and allowed us to restore the VM's from that server to other hosts while we rebuilt the machine.
We have been using Veeam Data Platform for 4 or 5 years now. The big change for us was others did not offer the best solution to backup both VM's and physical servers.
Our group does not have many cloud items that we need to backup. Most everything we backup are self hosted servers. We are considering getting some cloud backup space to help us create a better offsite strategy.
I would say that we use more "file-share" type backups. We take older servers with a decent amount of storage and either install Windows server or Ubuntu Linux as a "file-share" that we map to the backup system for storage.
I am not really sure what to say other than Veeam Data Platform works the way it should. Have not really had many major issues with it. It has allowed us to recover from misconfiguration, accidental deletions of VM's, Missing file recovery to name a few. We have no plans to try to find a Veeam Data Platform replacement.
