Overall Satisfaction with Workfront

Select departments are using WorkFront across our organization. Mostly in our IT department as well as in the PR, marketing, and communications departments. We've been using AceProject for years but only to track time to projects - no resource allocation management, no project management, no communication tracking, no intake management. I work in PR and we needed a tool to help track our work requests and allocate resources. Prior to WorkFront we were using Workamajig but that didn't hold up to what it promised. We switched to WorkFront when our IT department found that it can "play well" in our system.
  • You can work at the speed of the end user. For example, I can insert a task, project, work request, etc., and start logging time and status details. No bottleneck waiting for a project coordinator to approve my project request. They can reallocate which campaign or project bucket they want my work to be tracked in.
  • Easy to log status details as well as insert usable commentary without having to dig for it.
  • Search function as well as the filtering process makes locating projects very user friendly.
  • The functionality interface between Microsoft Outlook email and WorkFront needs a lot of improvement. For the amount of work it takes to clean up on the back end, it's just easier to enter info directly into WorkFront.
  • The calendar functionality and interface with external calendars would be a major improvement. I would like WorkFront more if I were able to view and add workload via whichever calendar I am using whether on Gmail or Outlook.
  • The mobile app is cool but luke warm. There's a lot of functions I'm not going to be able to do via my phone so digging through the less than user friendly mobile features would be a plus.
  • Based on the tracking capabilities of WorkFront, we were able to hire three new FTEs because we were able to justify based the amount of workload.
  • Great reporting capability especially for non technical users.
  • There are no additional upgrades - you get the latest and greatest - so you can customize without fear of incompatible upgrades.
Workamajig required too high of a learning curve and a dedicated FTE to manage. Basecamp is fantastic but too limited for what we needed. AceProject we are using but only certain features are turned on for the organization - at best its a good timesheet.
WorkFront is best suited for users who deal with project scope creep as par for the course as opposed to something to avoid outright. WorkFront is less suited for users who need a tool that they can share with other users for a project.
