15Five is well suited for businesses/groups that are transparent, and willing to share information. If an organization was not a place where information is freely shared, it would not be helpful. Although, it could improve the level of transparency, as members of the organization could have space where they feel comfortable to share information. There are several different privacy settings within the each 15Five, so users can choose what they want to share. Also, it's best to make sure you/your organization has the time to use 15Five. It can be time-consuming for users, but also for those reviewing employees 15Five. It can be a lot of information to sift through. However, the layout of the software is easy to engage with and digest, which is helpful! Additionally, it's important to share with the team how 15Five works, and why it's being utilized. Depending on the questions that are set up within the software, it would seem a bit invasive to some. However, if a clear expectation is set prior to use 15Five, this may not be an issue.

Great partner for administering our annual engagement survey. You can set up automated reminders for users who have not filled out the survey over a period of time. They also offer a lot of benchmark data and resources to really understand what your organization's results mean and how to go about picking the most critical pieces of information that need attention and can have the greatest impact on the organization. If you choose not to use their survey templates or add your own questions to a survey, you may not be able to get any external benchmark data, as it all depends on how relevant your own questions are to the questions used by others in their shared templates.

Pros

  • Organizes agendas for 1:1 meetings. Prior to 15Five, I kept a running list of notes, but I love that 15Five gives you the ability to add talking points to the 1:1 agenda and employees are able to do so as well. As we meet we can mark these off the list as we discuss them.
  • Reminders and email notifications. We have it set up so that a 15Five should be completed weekly. The system automatically sends email reminders as the due date approaches.
  • Ability to track company and team objectives/goals. When adding objectives into the system, you can assign them to a parent objective (company goal) to ensure you are on the right track with your goal setting and that it aligns with the business goals.

  • Provides survey templates with benchmark data from all other users, grouped by industry and company size.
  • Very user-friendly analytics of the post-survey results- easy to apply filers, graphs, charts, heat maps, great visuals. The data and charts are also very easy to extract in several different formats such as Excel, PDF, and CSV.
  • Extremely easy to share results with leaders/managers, apply security permissions for only parts of the data if you don't want to share full company results.
  • They also have a library with very helpful/guided PowerPoint and storytelling templates for preparing a high-level overview of results and presentations.

Cons

  • I wish there was a way to set reoccurring 1:1 meetings. I meet with each of my team members the same day and time each week, however, I have to manually schedule these 1:1 meetings in 15Five rather than being able to have a standing meeting.
  • I wish there was some more customizing available for the structure of objectives. We have Company goals, department goals, team goals, and individual goals but 15Five doesn't give the option to create team goals currently.

  • They already have a good assortment of templates to utilize but I would like to see more added on a regular basis.
  • The system is easy to use, and this does not relate to its functionality, but maybe more interesting design to the pages and experience as a whole.
  • It would be interesting to have the ability to share the survey results with the team and be able to add feedback comments as well.

Alternatives Considered

Asana isn't necessarily a performance tracking tool but we tried to use it in a way that would work. 15Five is much better since it specializes in this area specifically.

  • We recently implemented this tool across the company (it was originally only being used by 1 department to test it out) but so far it is helping us track towards our overarching company revenue growth goal.

  • Culture Amp has provided meaningful feedback to our managers and company as a whole.
  • Administering the survey is very easy and we get 100% participation on a regular basis.
