It's really user preference. Some people have been told by other colleagues that it's a great system to use so they want to go with that. There are other systems that do exactly the same thing. I have not found that 1ShoppingCart has any unique features that would lead me to persuade a client to use it over another one. I usually have clients look at two or three options and give feedback. Sometimes it comes down to monthly prices.

Stripe

Stripe handles essentially all of your payment infrastructure for you – with little additional logic needed by you, and over the past few years they've significantly built out their additional features for things like invoicing, emailed receipts, etc. Stripe's initial selling point for us was their powerful and well-documented APIs, which, when coupled with their great technical support, has kept us happy over the years.I'm less familiar with what it looks like to try to make use of Stripe without integrating with them via API; I get the impression that they similarly support manually entering and processing payments, however I can't speak to what that process is like or how it compares to the competition.

Pros

1ShoppingCart

  • Email broadcasts are super easy with 1ShoppingCart
  • Affiliate set up and management is easy

Stripe

  • The dashboard/backend has an excellent UI. It makes managing users, plans, etc very easy.
  • Good feature set in the backend. They give you a lot of control over how you want to handle clients and the plans they're subscribed to.
  • Their API is quite robust and well documented. Plenty of examples to help you achieve what you want to.

Cons

1ShoppingCart

  • I found their customer service team to be confusing with their responses and not as helpful as other products customer service teams. It can be frustrating to try to decipher their responses to more complicated questions and often felt a little 'annoying' whenever I needed to reach out.
  • When creating newsletters, I found the WYSIWYG (what you see if what you get) version of creating newsletters the formatting was almost always off which always resulted in needing to send tests to myself to fix the formatting because it never showed up as it would look when it was sent. That took a lot of extra time to edit.
  • Lots of different options with reports, as a beginner you may need someone else to support you. In the beginning I needed support from other team members in how to understand and create certain reports. Not the most intuitive and user friendly until you understand what you're doing!

Stripe

  • Despite the API documentation and examples from third party sources, it can be hard to get setup. Given the number of commonly desired things to setup, it would be nice to have more pre-coded features to get started with less trial and error.

Likelihood to Renew

If I were in charge of the renewal decision I would really take a look at 1SC vs. Infusionsoft. There are many ways each are great and many ways they are different. I would look at what was best for my company and make the choice accordingly. I find that Infusionsoft has many more ways to intuitively market, segment and cultivate new leads and grow the business as a whole than 1SC currently has.

Stripe 9.0

Stripe's support is nearly perfect – great attention to detail, fast response times, and a willingness to really dig into issues and get to the bottom of them.In the five years we've been using Stripe, the only negative thing I can say about their customer support is that it seems like there has been a slight shift to less technical front-line support agents, which means it's more likely your issue will have to be escalated before you get more information. This, however, has happened as Stripe rolled out more real-time support features like call and chat, and that really isn't workable if you're escalating everything right off the bat. It's absolutely an acceptable trade-off.

Alternatives Considered

1ShoppingCart

1SC was chosen years ago for the companies I've used it for. At that point they were one of the only companies offering this kind of service. The ability to have customers all in one place, have opt-ins to keep building the list and ability to add hundreds of products and programs and add these to the website are all reasons the company continues to use 1SC

Stripe

Stripe is incredibly easy to use and has the feature set that a custom build billing system would. They've thought about everything, and for our industry they are perfect. The biggest advantage that Stripe has is their incredibly easy to use "Products" section. This makes it incredibly simple to set up more complicated payment structures like recurring subscriptions and annual payments. No other system we've found is as easy to use and set up.

Return on Investment

1ShoppingCart

  • Better ability to gather information quickly for customers to support in the customer service response time
  • Faster lead conversion
  • Ability for multiple users to use the product under different user names so the team can work on different projects at once
  • Unless you know HTML the newsletters can take some time to be formatted correctly based on other programs

Stripe

  • Stripe has saved us a ton of time when it comes to compiling data. Their own analytics provide enough information to get your head around things, and their ability to connect to more robust systems like Baremetrics and ProfitWell make things really easy on our accounting team, easily saving 5+ hours per week.
  • Our sales team uses Stripe to accept payments, apply promotions and more. Because this process is so easy with Stripe, onboarding our sales team is always incredibly straight forward and mistakes are very rarely made. This easily saves us $1,000's in training costs compared to other systems that are more complex.
