2Checkout is great when you sell software licenses online or when you offer SaaS subscriptions. I don't think it can work in other scenarios.

Zuora

Zuora is a subscription tool. It is very focused and should probably stay that way. I think there is a good reason many businesses are choosing Zuora, but I think they'll be in for a disappointment in many areas, those I've listed in the Cons section of this review. If they make some drastic improvements to the UI, my users will be much more pleased, like removing a little rock out of your shoe.For a simple subscription business, Zuora is a great tool. If you get into multi-year subscriptions (known to be multi-year from inception), there are challenges, particularly related to revenue recognition, amendments, and, especially, future-dated amendments.

Pros

  • 2Checkout handles credit cards that I would not be able to accept from my country.
  • Fraud prevention works. They saved me a couple of times and I appreciate that.
  • I always received my payments on time. I never had to complain.

  • The CPQ quote engine makes our quoting much simpler and allows us to configure quotes quickly. The added advantage is it allows to turn the quotes in to subscriptions at the click of a button when the business is won.
  • One of the great things is the one you least think about. It simply sits in the background and does its job. Each subscription is configured to be invoiced and payments collected on daily schedules. We only know when things aren't right - which is rare.
  • Having the subscription information in Salesforce is a godsend. We have used the power of Salesforce workflows, formulas, reporting etc to make this data work for our customer-facing teams.

Cons

  • I get my payments via a Payoneer credit card. Sometimes I would prefer to receive a wire transfer instead but it is not so easy to switch payment methods.
  • Payment checking and purchase confirmation take about 10 minutes. It is not too much but for clients, it seems an eternity.

  • Reporting needs to be enhanced. We currently have to run multiple reports and combine to get the level of detail that we require.
  • Distinguishing between multiple lines of business needs to be improved. Zuora should provide an option for multiple cash, accounts receivable, deferred liability accounts (balance sheet accounts) so that we can easily manage and report on this information.
  • Aggregate billing; I'm aware that a first release recently came out, though I haven't yet used it to know how well it works or if it meets our needs.

I think Zuora did a great job. However, they could have provided more guidance on how to deal with out Payment Gateway and Processor provider, as well as guidance around providing a Mobile Responsive experience for sites using the Zuora HPM.

The UI and ease-of-use was really great in Zuora. The Salesforce integration was truly impressive. We liked the flexibility we could have within Zuora for various custom selling models, product catalog. Zuora really seemed to fill a sweet spot. Other systems were large but cumbersome and would easily require IT resources to help support the staff that would be using those systems but not so in the case of Zuora. Zuora was intuitive and easy to pick-up and provided a path for growth and integration
