Abacus

Abacus is great for smaller companies that need to automate expense management. It is a very user-friendly system that makes it easy for all employees to understand without any training. We have heard of issues with their AMEX program. Companies that have tens or hundreds of corporate AMEX cards should likely explore other options

1) It's well suited for companies that use credit cards on a regular basis and need to track their expenses closely because of external requirements.2) It centralizes all credit card transactions in one location, which is accessible to all agency employees. 3) Electronic data versus paper receipts. 4) Increases accounting efficiencies.5) Organizes data.

Cons

Abacus

  • When you upload a receipt to abacus it would be great to port in the information from the receipt to the text fields.
  • It would be good to have a more automated way for Abacus to integrate in with other payroll systems.
  • It would be nice to have more levels of permissions, e.g. manager level, administer level and employee level.

Very friendly customer service. They made the implementation process as easy as possible. I couldn't have asked for better support. They actually worked with the Acumatica support team to help with the upload of data from one system to the other.

Alternatives Considered

Abacus

I used expensify in my last role, however it was at a bigger company so I was not involved in the process besides being a user. Abacus seems easier to use from a user perspective. It would be great to have a better integration with our payroll system, but it seems like with all softwares, you can't have it all

While Concur is a great product in itself, Tallie is vastly superior in user friendliness. The OCR technology is a game changer, and the ease of mobile use can transform your workforce. Concur is better suited for Fortune 200 companies or companies with tens of thousands of employees. In all other instances, I would choose Tallie.

Return on Investment

Abacus

  • It does seem like they are still working out some kinks in the web and mobile apps – a few times the app has crashed. But they're also very fast to push updates.
  • The benefits are simple. No one likes taking time out of their day to do expense reporting. Abacus speeds that process up considerably. The interface is clean, and I'm able to see what expenses are pending vs. expenses that are already cleared.
  • The benefit from a user standpoint is that it adds an element of organization to a process that is typically disorganized. It has saved us numerous hours.

  • We just started implementing this platform a couple months ago and the impact is already being felt in productivity of our accounting team.
  • The ease of adding every employee across 4 different companies was simple and easy.
  • Transition is always hard - best bite the bullet.
